Brownfield council backs weapons limits and new crime class
The Brownfield City Council approved three measures from the police chief including prohibiting city employees from carrying weapons on duty except peace officers and exploring instructor programs. They authorized a federal grant application to fund a three year school resource officer at Brownfield High School with local cost sharing and a vocational criminal justice course. The plan, funded partly by the COPS program, would total 111 980 with about 75 000 from the grant and 36 000 from local sources. The district plans to continue the program after federal funds end.
