Seed Breeders to Discuss New Triticale at Public Meeting

A public meeting on triticale, a cross of wheat and rye, will be held at 2 30 p m on August 14 at the Holiday House 1301 Tohoka Road. Dr Lawrence T Gundy and Dr Earl H Collister will discuss varieties advantages and economics of the crop. The session is open to farmers ranchers seed dealers and the general public. Turn to Page 4.

Cotton crop outlook improves for Plains counties

Plains Cotton Growers and the Lubbock Cotton Exchange project a 1.84 million bale harvest for 25 High Plains counties, about 450000 more than 1969. Terry County may reach 111000 bales from 149000 planted acres with 146000 in use, totaling an estimated value near $338 million including price supports and lint and seed.

Terry County TB and RD Association Meet Friday

The Terry County Chapter of the West Texas TB and RD Association will convene at 10 a.m. Friday in the South Plains Health Unit at Main and D Streets. Representatives from civic and woman's clubs are invited as a local chapter president will be elected. Joyce Burkholder of Lubbock will speak. the Mobile Unit will visit Sept. 18 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Joe Burleson represents Terry County in the association.

Hurd and Hamilton to Fill Vacancies on CC Board

Hurd and Hamilton were elected to fill vacancies on the Terry County Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture board at a regular session. Hurd will replace ill health forced vice president Lloyd Hahn. Harvest Festival committee chairmen were appointed with dates Oct 10 or Oct 17 under consideration and W. A. Leigon will marshal events.

CAA Evaluates Past Work Plans Program For 1971 72

Community Action Agency board reviewed eight months of work and set goals for 1971-72 including a day care center labor survey housing improvements ongoing programs such as Family Planning Out Reach and Well Baby Clinic and services like emergency food and legal aid. Building plans with Wheatley school land sale to the county for a new agency building were discussed with HUD funding applied for.

Meet C. C. Tucker of 205 E. Buckley a senior citizen who values clean living and people. He began life on February 27 1897 in Brown County and is known for his pride in hard work and his part time plumbing profession. His father James Marion Tucker was a farmer who married Mary E. Bearden and they raised eight children.

Kindergarten Registration Scheduled at Brownfield High

Brownfield Independent Schools set kindergarten registration from 8 am to 4 pm Wednesday and Thursday August 12 13 in the choir room of Brownfield High School. Three programs listed Migrant Head Start and State Kindergarten require age limits and deprivation criteria for eligibility.
