Funeral rites held for J. V. Vernon former Terry farmer
Funeral services for J. Vernon aged 59, a former Terry area farmer, were conducted Wednesday at the Assembly of God Church with Rev. J. Brasher officiating. Vernon farmed near Wellman from 1930 to 1942 and died July 25 in San Fernando, California, where he had lived since 1942. Burial followed at Brownfield Cemetery under See No. 3 page 5 guidance.

Stadium fencing contract let to Lubbock firm
Cyclone Fence Company of Lubbock submitted the apparent low bid on almost 4,000 feet of fencing around the new BHS football stadium northeast of here. The proposal was $7,532, beating four other bidders. The project aims for completion before the Cubs' September 13 opening. Steel shortages have delayed some steel for light standards and overhead beams, but construction is expected to stay on schedule.

Cubs will put 1132 reserved seats on sale at 7 am August 18 at the courthouse tax collector’s office on a first come basis due to a new stadium layout.
