Town Hall meeting seeks beautification of Brownfield

Citizens are invited to a 7 p.m. town hall at Brownfield High School Commons to discuss beautifying Brownfield. Sponsored by the Brownfield Chamber of Commerce and Brownfield Industrial Development Corporation, the event features Cindy Gasaway of Plainview as the primary speaker and aims to attract visitors and new business while preserving historic buildings.

Ag officials detail 1996 Farm Bill briefing in Terry County

About 75 area producers attended a Terry County agriculture briefing Tuesday morning to learn about the 1996 Farm Bill. Danny Decker, director of the Terry County Farm Service Agency, and Dr. Jackie Smith of Texas Extension Service outlined the act signed by President Clinton in April. The overview highlighted sweeping changes from prior farm legislation and noted a single enrollment opportunity for a farm under the new program.

Brownfield Band earns UIL sweepstakes at district contest

Brownfield High School symphonic band, 65 members under Richard Herrera, earned first division sweepstakes in concert and sightreading and first division in marching at UIL. Concert Band, 48 members under Jamie Shipp, won first division in sightreading. Judges praised horn section and soloists. directors offered high praise for students and performances.

Brownfield Schools Ready TAAS Test with Events

Brownfield Intermediate and Brownfield Middle Schools organize prep activities for the TAAS test this week. The intermediate held assemblies with Brooke Staudt and Ted Leps plus Cub players Erasmo Rodriguez and Carlos Rojas. Breakfast in classrooms at 8:15 a.m. Tuesday and Wednesday supports test days. Middle School plans breakfasts at First Methodist Church for eighth graders Tuesday and for sixth and seventh graders Wednesday. After testing, activities and contests run at 2 p.m. each day. Scores are due May 24 with incentive awards planned for high or passing marks.
