The Brownfield Texas mayor proclaims April 17 22 1967 as Clean Up Fix Up Paint Up Week to promote community welfare and a healthier city. The declaration is issued by Mayor C E Ross and witnessed on April 14 1967.
Brownfield Lions Club heard a presentation by Methodist Youth Fellowship members about the International Christian Youth Exchange program. The film A Journey to Understanding outlined a plan where a Brownfield student hosts a foreign student for one year, with the foreign student coming to Brownfield. The Baumgardner family was announced as foster hosts. Doug Cox noted District 2-T-2 convention in Lamesa April 28-29 with seven Brownfield delegates.
General Telephone plans a two day training conference for Plant department staff on installation and maintenance of an intercom system. Norman Anderson of Long Island City will lead the sessions, April 18 19, with attendees from the Western Division. C C Scott notes the program underscores the company’s service commitment.

Other local burglaries include additions at Goodpasture plant and Brownfield area. several arrests for traffic and public-plac e offenses. A tornado scare sparked by a stuck car horn near Bowman Oldsmobile.
Brownfield chamber and Agricultural Retail Committee vote to observe DST and keep hours 8 30 a m to 5 30 p m with clocks moved forward one hour at 2 a m on April 30 1966. Residents should set clocks ahead before bed April 29. Moonlight Sale planned for June 22 with stores closing at dusk and reopening after 8 00 p m.
Terry County singing convention scheduled for today at 2 30 p m at the First United Pentecostal Church 218 W Tate. Special groups will perform solos duets trios and quartets in the program.

Karl Baumgardner, 13, of Brownfield edged through five contestants to win the Brownfield county spelling bee and earn a spot in the area bee in Lubbock on April 29. Sherry Bevers of Wellman misspelled first, Karl then spelled vivus to clinch the crown, with his sister and others placing in the top ranks as well.
