Harold Frost from the Lubbock Weather Bureau spoke to locals about Skywarn a citizen watcher program. Civil Defense director Lewis Simmonds outlined volunteer roles and urged calling the headquarters at 637 2511 to report severe storms with priority emergency rating for rapid collection.
Classes resume after holidays for Brownfield students as the district ends the fifth six week period with 135 seniors in graduation at Cub Stadium May 29. Baccalaureate is May 25 at 8 p m in the high school auditorium.

Heavy April showers swept Terry County bringing 0.37 to 1.56 inches in Brownfield totals and up to about 2 to 3 inches in other sections. Weatherman Lewis Simmonds and local growers noted steady downpours with electrical displays easing irrigation needs and providing a solid planting base for the season.
Trustees of the Brownfield Independent School District will meet in a special board meeting at 6 30 a.m. Monday at Foxs Restaurant to canvass votes from the April 5 election and swear in new board members. Incumbents Robert Noble Jr and John McFarland were re elected with 106 and 104 votes. The board will discuss buying a weight machine for the athletic department and applications for tax assessor collector. John Jennings resigns effective May 31. A report on bond money investments and plans for the new high school building will be discussed, and trustees will attend a School Board Workshop at Texas Tech at 3 p.m. Monday.
The Meadow City Council ruled there will be no wrecking yards within city limits. All wrecked or dismantled automobiles must be moved from the city as soon as possible following the regular session on Monday.
GenTel of the Southwest schedules a three way Open House in Brownfield to honor the 5000th telephone installed. A ribbon cutting at 614 West Tate marks the remodeling of the area office and a gift will be presented to the honoree. Tours of the three plants follow with demonstrations of direct distant dialing, closed circuit television, switching, and heavy equipment.
Terry County volunteers join the American Cancer Society Five Year Educational Survey Monday from 6 to 10 pm. Jack Garrett chairs the unit urging participation. Mrs Lanny Webb directs the house to house drive with area captains assisting. Questionnaires cover eight questions for women and six for men, kept confidential. Campaign workers aim to promote checkups with a two fold message. In 1968 the drive raised 1311.69 dollars.
