Brownfield bid for 1800000 dollar Texas prison beds bid pack

Brownfield and Terry County residents prepared a 400 page 1.8 million dollar bid package backed by about 150000 dollars in pledges to win a Texas Department of Criminal Justice contract for new prison beds. Local leaders Rep. Jim Rudd and Senator John Montford supported the effort as Brownfield competes with 40 cities in a statewide contest. The group travels to Austin Friday for the decisive board meeting.

Co-op Gin to showcase facility at open house

Brownfield IDC sponsors a booth at Terry Courty Coop Gin open house this Thursday and Friday. The gin will demo a new low energy conveying and drying system, the first of its kind in Texas, shown from 3 to 4 p.m. each day to hundreds attending the Texas Cotton Ginners' Association. Girls State delegates named for Terry County

Two Union High School students join the Terry County delegation for Girls State this summer as delegate Amanda Flake and alternate Barbara Gonzales. Meadow High School reps canceled, replaced by Brownfield High School students Barbie Brisendine as delegate and Lynsey Hargrave as alternate. American Legion Post No. 575 in Lubbock will host a banquet for Girls State and Boys State delegates and alternates at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 5.

City opens waste oil dump for residents

On April 8 1992 Brownfield announces a manned waste motor oil dump at City Barn 900 block S 2nd for residents. Only hydrocarbons allowed no brake fluid to be mixed. ENE Enterprises collects the oil for recycling.

Early runoff set for Precinct 1 County Commissioner race

Early voting ends Friday ahead of the Tuesday April 14 runoff for County Commissioner Precinct No. 1. Incumbent Harvey Smith retires, contested by Earl Brown Jr. and Jack Cargill. Voters 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the County Clerk's office. election day 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the VFW. 2049 registered voters, with Republican primary voters restricted from switching parties for the runoff, others may vote if they did not vote Republican.
