Phillips to Speak at City Reception Today

Joe B. Phillips of Lubbock, a GOP congressman-at-large candidate, will attend a 3 30 p m reception at The Party House hosted by Terry County Republican chairman James Evans. No Library Fines in Brownfield for National Library Week

In Brownfield, Kendrick Memorial Library will not levy fines on overdue books this week in observance of National Library Week from April 8 to 14. The relaxed policy applies to all patrons during the period.

Explosion Hurts Four as Gas Blast Strikes Farm Home

Building permits through February total 106 019 down from 180 000 a year ago. An explosion at the Mozel Ratliff farm near the city hospitalized four members of the Jones family and damaged the one story brick house with a burned mattress and a blown out wall. Authorities say natural gas caused the blast.

Assessors to Meet in Lamesa Chapter Session

Bank deposits rise at two cities lenders in first 1962 report

First National shows deposits of $9,833,006 on March 26, up from $8,392,000 a year earlier, a $1,441,006 gain. Brownfield State total reached $12,044,000, up from $11,129,000, a $915,000 rise. Combined deposits across both banks reach $21,878,000.

Brownfield student wins trip to Seattle World’s Fair

James Fulgham, a Brownfield High School senior, won the top prize at the regional Science Fair at Texas Tech for an electro phoresis protein separation demonstration. The award includes a May trip to the International Science Fair in Seattle. Stanley Farrar won first in physical sciences and was named alternate for a Navy cruise.

Connally Plans Texas Campaign Swing Through Brownfield

Fort Worth Governor candidate John Connally campaigns in Brownfield on Wednesday with an 8 a.m. Democratic coffee at The Party House followed by a downtown visit. He appears Tuesday in Lubbock with a 3 p.m. arrival, 3:30 to 4:30 reception, 7:30 dinner, and a 9:30 to 10 TV address on KCBC Channel 11. He leaves Brownfield for a 11:30 a.m. luncheon in Lubbock and continues to San Antonio by 2 p.m.
