The April 17 Texas Industrial Week observance will conclude with an industrial appreciation dinner at the Brownfield Country Club. Bill Noble, chair of the Industrial Committee, aims for the best turnout yet with Odessan speaker C. C. Mitch Michel set to headline.
Graveside services for Mrs M E Jacobson a former Brownfield resident were held at Terry County Memorial Cemetery with Rev J Loyd Mayhew officiating. Burial was at Brownfield under Brownfield Funeral Home. she died in Wichita Kansas after a long illness. Survivors include husband Dr M E Jacobson son Dr Jack Jacobson and daughters Aletha Knight and Eileen Kent.
Brownfield Chamber of Commerce directors heard that the T 41 training school project faced rejection for Brownfield as Telegraphic notice from the Reese AFB procurement office stated the bid was negative and the award must go to the next bidder. Chick Clark reported that Levelland remains favored and the Terry County Airport building will finish soon. The board vowed to press Congress and arrange a Washington call to seek reversal while marching ahead with other routine actions and event planning.
Trustee election votes canvassed at a breakfast meeting as Brownfield School Board reinstates Paul Farrar as president for another year. Carrol Collier wins Place 5 and Dr Tim Faulkenberry takes Place 4, both with comfortable margins. Collier becomes vice president and Billie Moore secretary, with Delton Tatum as assistant secretary. A Texas Tech workshop on April 12 is noted and attendance urged.
Meadow elects three city council members in a close race. Edgar Nash tops with 38 votes while Ronald L McCarty and D S Carroll win slots with 53? results show McCarty and Carroll at 53 each. Kerry Hinson and Sammy Swinford follow with 32 and 30 votes. Robert A Gibson earns 10 votes as others retire from council posts.
Meadow City Council approved a measure requiring all dogs in the city to be vaccinated and wear tags by May 1, 1965. Unvaccinated, tagless dogs will be taken to the pound and disposed of. Citizens are reminded to tie stray dogs and contact Meadow City Hall for pickup.
John Kendrick urged Jaycees to leave a strong heritage as Brownfield Jaycee Club installed new officers at a Ladies Day luncheon. Incoming president R. Rex Bailey and others were welcomed after outgoing president Wyatt reviewed a year of growth and projects, with Turner hosting and presiding.
C Mitch Michel a 30 year oil and well service veteran will be featured speaker at the Brownfield Chamber of Commerce banquet Thursday night at 7 30 PM The event marks a Texas Industrial Week highlight with 65 attendees last year and aims to strengthen ties between the Chamber and local industrialists Michel serves as assistant to the Region Manager of Byron Jackson Inc assigned to the Midland Region of that firm
The man, a 1928 arrival in West Texas, built ties across the Permian Basin in oil and civic circles. Born Kendrick Oklahoma, he earned a mechanical engineering degree from Oklahoma A and M and later held leadership roles in Lions clubs and public relations for Byron Jackson Inc. He and his wife raise two daughters in Odessa.
Services for Mrs. Wylie Bridges were held at Crescent Hill Church of Christ with Cecil Hill officiating. Burial followed at Brownfield Cemetery. The 83 year old Brownfield resident died Sunday in Brownfield Convalescent Home. Survivors include her husband three sons a daughter a sister six grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
Only 67 ballots were cast at City Hall. Jack Hamilton received 66 votes, Kenneth Purtell 65, and Sam Teague 64 with no write ins. The three will serve two year terms alongside Mayor C. E. Ross and Councilmen Speedy Lindsey and L. J. Richardson whose terms continue.
A Sunday aft brisk square scene erupted into gunfire as Latin American men clashed. Two wounded, Benerito Carreon 19 treated for leg injuries, Perfecto Grimaldo 18 grazed by a bullet. Carreon charged with assault with intent to murder. Grimaldo fined for carrying a weapon. Police recovered both weapons. Three other men questioned and released. Additional arrests include DWI cases, liquor violations, minors in possession, and various traffic mishaps. Fire alarms, a barn fire, and a grease fire were reported. Theft from Pickett's Garage and a street light shot out were also noted.
