John Kendrick was chosen along with 27 other leaders to serve on the Board of Trustees of the High Plains Research Foundation at the Spring meeting in Plainview on March 29. Harold Hinn was re elected chairman and Frank Moore re elected Trustee president.
Chief James Tippitt reports Brownfield police traveled 174 292 miles patrolling a jurisdiction of six square miles serving about 12 000 people and 500 businesses. In 1968 4 304 calls were received with 585 offenses inside the city. 405 arrests occurred and 205 people were fingerprinted for Civil Service.
Patton Equipment Company of Abilene won the street sweeper bid for Brownfield at 9895 dollars after a 3000 cash discount. Other bids ranged from 10296 to 14595. Delivery in about seven weeks. Downtown streets to be swept two to three weeks. residential area once or twice monthly. Police Chief Tippit praised the department and the council.
Harold Frost of the Weather Bureau will discuss a Tornado Preparedness Plan for Terry County at a 2 p.m. public meeting in the Civil Defense Headquarters basement. He will outline how residents can assist in notifying Civil Defense of approaching storms and explain procedures to minimize tornado disasters through timely warnings and preparedness.
Jay Naman, president of the Texas Farmers Union, told about 30 agri business men in Brownfield that farmers must organize to pressure congress for a new farm program. He warned that direct payment limits hurt the program and warned of corporate control. Rankin and Gober attended as local leaders, with coffee served before the Q&A session.

Vincent Crowder seventh grader at Brownfield Intermediate School won the Optimist Oratorical Contest in Brownfield, speaking on Respect For Law Cornerstone of Citizenship. George Booth placed second for Union and Scott Hammond third from Brownfield.
Babe Ruth League tryouts will be held April 16, 17 and 18 at the Babe Ruth ball park at 4 30 p m each day. Player draft is on April 18 and application forms can be picked up at the First National Bank or at the schools. All boys planning to play Babe Ruth League ball must register.
Duane Moss nominated to represent Brownfield Toastmasters in area contest held Tuesday in Lubbock after April 1 meeting speeches. Bill Cowan named alternate, talks included Non-Involvement. Other speakers were John Ball and Joe Masso with topics Our Most Valuable Crop and Enthusiasm.
