Loretta E Pres ton is the April artist of the month for the Brownfield Art Association. She created three felt panels of Caspar Balthazar and Melchior to be given as a door prize at the Monday meeting April 5 at 7 30 in Brownfield State Bank.
Mrs Ella Smith of 521 North 2nd was feted on her 88th birthday March 21 at the Brownfield Party House. A daughter baked the cake, and attendees included her children Julie Floyd Cave Junction Oregon Henry Massingill Earl Comett Brownfield Ocie and Roy Smith Os Osland Edward Smith Tokio. 27 grandchildren and more. Mrs Smith remains active in church and Senior Citizens, attending West Side Baptist services twice weekly.
Sunday gatherings at the Lowrey and Gould homes feature extended family. Wayne Bagwell family relocates to Lubbock while the Kelley household hosts Owen Tim and Russell. Garden Grove visitor Huron stays with D A Key while Don Tate and Langham family visit. Lemuel Yates shows two weeks of improved health at Brownfield General Hospital.
Wellman High placed fifth in the University Interscholastic League 1A 7B play contest held in Borden County on March 25. Cast included Odell Tuggle Karen Hawkins Buddy Pace Candyce Brown Sherry Bevers Grady Herron Tom McCollister Randy Cooper Lesa Carey Jackie Burris with Marlene Wellman directing. Odell Tuggle made the All Star cast and Candyce Brown received honorable mention.
Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Boen were honored with a wedding shower Monday evening in the Bowman Lounge due to Mrs. Boen’s illness. Guests included the grandmother Mrs. Irene Boen and mother in law Mrs. J T Renfro. Blue and white decor featured a crocheted cloth and blue floral centerpiece. refreshments included blue and white cake and blue punch. Sharon Sims registered about forty guests. Hostesses included Mrs. Charles Golston Winona Glover and many others. hostess gift was an electric skillet.
Brownfield Maids and Matrons Club plans a guest day and friendship day on April 6 with Easter as the theme. Mrs. R. D. Shewmake hosts from Renewed Faith. The Rev. Ed Crow will give a message titled The Meaning of Easter and Dale Durham will sing. Hostesses are Mrs. Leo Hawkins and Mrs. W. L. Patterson.
About twenty members of the Firemen Auxiliary will canvass doors on Monday and Tuesday evenings, April 5 and 6, starting at 6 p.m. to sell dish cloths. Proceeds will support various activities of the organization.
