March permits surge as Brownfield revenues rise and leadership changes take effect
A March spike in building permits totals 15 permits valued at 121 175 dollars, doubling February and lifting first quarter 1966 to 186 350 dollars. Voters in the Brownfield Independent School District elected two new trustees with Bob Sewell receiving 314 votes and Roland Pair 47, while Paul Farrar, unopposed, earned 350 votes. Entries for the annual Optimist Club Oratorical Contest must be submitted to Laurelle Wheatley or any Optimist member, with the contest set for noon Thursday during the club meeting. Jim Russell reports 11 entries so far. eligibility requires under 16 by year end, speeches four to five minutes, memorized with no notes. Winners at local level receive trophies and the top speaker advances to the zone contest in Lubbock, then district and finally the international championship in Baltimore with scholarships and paid travel.
