March permits surge for Brownfield with church and telecom builds

Brownfield issued permits totaling 745 559 25 in March led by a 315 000 church building at 202 Gillham Drive and a 135 000 ENMR Telephone Corp tower project at 204 W Broadway. A 84 750 residence at 1807 Carter Drive and 72 000 addition to Foursquare Church at 601 Lubbock Rd also figure in the month’s activity, pushing 1986 year to date permits to 924 973 25, well above 1985’s first quarter total.

Seven Terry County elections set for this Saturday

Seven elections appear on the Terry County ballot this Saturday including three school boards Meadow Wellman and Union three city races Brownfield Wellman and Meadow and a hospital board election. Only three races are contested Brownfield city Wellman and Meadow school boards.

Missy Baron Named Outstanding FHA Member at Brownfield

The Brownfield High School Future Homemakers of America held an awards dinner at K-Bob's Restaurant. Missy Barron, senior and chapter president, received the Outstanding Member Award. Sh'Lane Holmes earned Outstanding First Year Member honors. Five members earned Encounter certificates. Dallas Convention Center hosts the state FHA meeting April 25-26 with Missy Barron, She Lane Holmes, Cathy Van Story, Lisa Black, and Randi Bullard qualified to attend. Vickie Dyke is alternate. Mrs. Jim Barron was thanked as 1985-86 chapter mother.

Brownfield Super Saturday brings prizes and performances downtown

Brownfield merchants promote a Spring sidewalk sale this Saturday with a $300 grand prize and hourly drawings. Courthouse square hosts Taekwondo demos at 1 and 5 pm, a Chris Miller concert at 2 pm, Tumbling T's at 3 pm, Struff Band at 4 pm, and square dancing at 6 pm. Carwashes, a blood drive, and local art displays accompany the event with many area businesses participating.

Main St. project completed a month early in Brownfield

The State Department of Highways and Public Transportation announced that a Main St. improvement near the railroad crossing at 8th and 9th streets in west Brownfield was finished ahead of schedule. Amarillo Road Co. rebuilt approaches and Santa Fe Railway Co. removed two of four tracks, at a cost of 167000 dollars funded by the Lubbock District safety and betterment program boosted by 1.3 million last year from state fuel tax and vehicle fees.

Brownfield Little Dribblers Host Weekend Tourney

Brownfield Little Dribblers prepare a regional tournament at two Brownfield High School gyms on Friday and Saturday. Two major league and two minor league all-star teams join Snyder and Lamesa squads. Friday features Brownfield minor league White vs Snyder at 7:15 p.m. and Brownfield minor league Reds vs Lamesa at 8:30 p.m. in the girls gym.

American Legion District Convention Planned in Brownfield

The 19th District American Legion convention will be held Saturday and Sunday, April 4 and 5, at the American Legion Hall in Brownfield. Registration starts at 1 p.m. Saturday. Rehabilitation sessions will be led by Lubbock and Terry County officers, with Ron Hayes of the Texas Employment Commission in Lubbock assisting.
