Waller County Fair Opens with Parade and Events

The Waller County Fair begins today with a 10:00 a.m. trade through Lemps tead to the fairgrounds. Senator Culp Krueger speaks at opening ceremonies and swine judging is under way while poultry follows at 1:30 p.m. Queen coronation for 1957 at 8:00 p.m. features Doris Jean Mueller of Pattison.

City of Katy Adopts 37 Cent Water Rate

The City of Katy announces a new base rate of 37 cents with hope for a further 2 cent reduction after a new main water line is installed along 1st Street from Skeet Poorman's residence to the Conoco Bulk Station and five fire plugs. The rate change follows completion of an overhead pump installation and roof count update.

Services Held for Raymond R. Rochen in Waller County

Raymond R. Rochen 68 of Waller died September 11 1957 at Aller County Hospital after two years illness from cancer. He born November 2 1898 in Waller son of John Rochen and Marie Hajek. Survived by wife two sons eight daughters eight brothers two sisters and many relatives and friends. Requiem Mass said Frydek with interment Frydek Cemetery and pallbearers nephews Rochen Hajek Lamza.

Funeral Services Held Monday for H. W. Grisbee

Funeral services were conducted at Memorial Lutheran Church in Katy for Henry William Grisbee known as Mr Bill aged 69 who died Saturday in Temple after months of illness. Born in Cypress he helped found Sanitary Farm Dairies in Houston in 1928 and served as treasurer and later director. Survivors include two sons Rev J W Grisbee sister list and five grandchildren. Burial followed at Addicks cemetery.

The Fort Bend Telephone Co begins construction on a new building at the A Street property in Katy to house dial equipment and offices with further details to be released shortly.

Harvest Season Peaks for Rice and Cotton in Local Fields

Rica farmers and cotton growers work long hours to beat storms while winds threaten. The Rice Denera and American Rice Growers in Katy report 142000 bbls offered plus 48000 bbls sold on Tuesday, with over 123000 bbls sold as prices near support. Cotton crews run day and night to harvest this week.

Brookshire B and P W Club marks tenth anniversary

National Business Week notes as the Brookshire Business and Professional Women’s Club celebrates its tenth anniversary. Organized October 14, 1947, the group meets the second and fourth Tuesdays, has eighteen members, and supports local civic projects including fire station and municipal building funding, plus plans for a filing cabinet, club room supplies, tree planting, barbecues, rummage and bake sales, and a game party.

McBride Well Test Hits Gas At Harrie County Discovery

Admiral Drilling Co. reports No. 1 Mary M. McBride well near Barker Harrie County struck gas on open flow from 7735 to 7747 feet. The well produced 4.6 million cubic feet daily with a gas distillate ratio of 47 000 to 1 and gravity of 61 degrees. Operator suggests naming the Heinze field for the new discovery.
