Mrs. W. D. Mills hosted a Vanishing Tea Monday afternoon as part of Brookshire Methodist Church Ladies series. A piano program by Hileen Birbijian and Jessie Dozier, violin by Anna Ruth Beyler, and a vocal solo by Mrs. F. A. Ebel pleased guests. Cards 42 and flinch, plus refreshments, concluded the gathering with Mrs. Mills praised as an admirable hostess. Out of town visitors included Mesdames H. N. Neelley and Clara Boughton.
Mrs J Cooper of Houston visits relatives while A B Parker and wife, Ed Gregory, Geo Harrison and son, Negose Agopian, Mrs A N Highrabedian and son Scrope, and Mrs J F Taylor travel to or from Houston on various errands. Several residents attend institutes, teach, or shop in nearby towns. L W Stout buys cotton in northern Texas and families from Houston and Goose Creek visit, with others attending colleges and Jewish New Year observances.
Last Monday the public school opened its 1931 32 term under favorable auspices with keen patron interest. About seventy five pupils enrolled the first day and many attended the opening exercises to meet the new teachers.
The federal ginners report shows Waller county on September 1, 1931 with 767 bales, down from 4046 bales the previous year. Special agent C. H. Urdah of the U S Census Bureau provides the figures.
The season’s ginned cotton totals show Trettin and Trettin with 452 bales and Donigan McCauley Gin Co. with 418. Miss Alice Hovas is appointed supernumerary teacher at Hights High School in Houston after Rice and study abroad. Mrs T S Sterling and daughter Mrs F W Norris and Miss E B Sterling leave Pattison for San Antonio with Norris to Eagle Pass to assume principal duties. Malcolm Sterling accompanies the trip. A B Anderson Notary Public is at The Times Office.
Brookshire and surrounding residents report visits and gatherings. Julia Gaidosed returns from Houston after weeks with relatives. Several families host guests including Minnie Stasny and Marie Adams. Cotton picking continues while gardens are planted after rains. Community events include church at Monaville and a Hempstead outing.
News reaches that Miss Nan Tie Pier married Mr. Clarence Lee of Bay City last Saturday evening. The couple plan to reside in Bay City after their wedding.
