The list names Katy High School Tiger Team players across five rows including players like Jow Clifford Haigh Harmen Raymon Baron and Johnny Youngblood with coaches Beck O Malley Bright Welch and Blume. A note says Monday September 6 is a national holiday and stores will be closed. drivers are urged to shop early and drive carefully to avoid accidents.
Katy hosts Navasota in the district opener after a home scrimmage win over East Bernard. The Tigers display a potent passing attack led by Steve Jordan and James Hayes while Randy Jinks pushes for multiple touchdowns and a late 35 yard strike to Hayes.
Three foreign exchange students from Chile Ecuador and Peru spent Friday and Friday night with Katy families. The visitors are part of a group preparing to live in American homes during the 1965 66 school year after arriving from South America to Miami en route to California. Memorial High School arranged initial assignments for the group through AFS Students.
The Royal Independent School District trustees completed a review of six firms and selected Winters & Wirpitz for architectural work and Underwood Neuhouse & Co. as financial adviser. Both firms will serve on a contingency basis as the district develops a new facilities study.
Obituary note reports Troy L Reynolds died at 1:00 a.m. Wednesday. Funeral services are set for 10:00 a.m. Thursday at the First Baptist Church in Katy with burial at Memorial Oaks Cemetery.
Katy mourns the death of 42 year old W. G. Bill Gray in a car crash Monday night at 9 20 Services are set for September 1 at 2 00 PM at Rader Funeral Home Chapel in Longview Interment to follow Gray was a local resident with ties to the community and his passing prompted funeral arrangements and obituary notices.
Carl Brazell News Editor at KTRH Houston will address the Lions Club Tuesday. He recounts his Bogalusa experiences during Klan activity when civil rights demonstrations pressed integration. Brazell witnessed a secret Klan meeting and cross burnings amid hostile locals.
A preliminary meeting in Katy on September 7 at 7 30 p m at Tipton's Restaurant will present Lionism to local men. Attending are Tom Kirkham state secretary Lion International District Governor Edward Harwell Don Buckaloo Les Stigler and others from Houston Conroe and the 252 district. Meetings may recur weekly or twice monthly at breakfast dinner or supper. All men are invited to attend next Tuesday.
All PTA members and teachers are invited to the Addicks PTA Katy Elementary and Katy High School PTA reception on September 9 at 7 30 p m in the Katy Elementary Cafetorium. New teachers will be introduced by Mr James E Taylor and highlights of a Switzerland trip will be presented. Refreshments will be served.
Waller County producers and royalty owners market about 19.5 million dollars in crude oil and natural gas annually. In 1963 oil yielded 1.8 million and gas 17.7 million, with oil at about 610000 barrels and gas at 141.6 billion cubic feet.
The Annual UF Kick off Breakfast will be Sept. 7 at Tiptons at Sam. Arthur Miller sponsors the breakfast yearly for the United Fund Drive Workers. Rev. Harrol Waterbury is the Katy Chairman.
Funeral services for Roy L. Quinton, 70, were held in Sealy Tuesday afternoon with burial at San Felipe Cemetery. Rev. Charles Stewart officiated. Pallbearers were his sons Tommie Sealy Raymond Lowell Clyde Houston Charlie Deer Park James Edward Quinton Deer Park. Surviving are his wife Dellie Quinton, daughters Jessie Peek Katy and Don Santoro California, four sisters Marie Allen Oklahoma City and John McDonald Wilcox. See QUINTON, p. 3
Colorado County’s Mary Anne Potter won the District XI Queen Contest at Katy High School Auditorium with Harris County’s Judy Beke as runner up. Dewey Compton hosted the event, with contestants and judges named and talks by Dina Sue Thomas and Kerry Tielke. Linda Laycx earned district representation after a guitar and accordion talent segment.
Texans go to polls on Tuesday September 7 to vote on a proposed constitutional amendment to increase the Texas Senate from 31 to 39 members. Metropolitan areas would gain eight seats for 12 total, rural areas would have 27 seats, affecting district balance and checks in state government. The measure aims to offset recent redistricting and is urged by the Texas Farm Bureau as a crucial issue.
