Brookshire Colored High School 1948 Graduation Plans

Brookshire Colored High School celebrates ten junior high and fifteen high school graduates with fields of study listed including nursing dressmaking agriculture home economics auto mechanics barbering and vocal stenography. The senior class gifted an electric bell and the class of 1948 an electric clock. A May 28 1948 commencement follows a May 12 picnic and a nine month term. VFW donkey softball game to raise funds set for May 27 at Katy field with Hempstead VFW against local veterans.

Beyond our Own shown at Brookshire Methodist Church

A program titled Beyond our Own will be shown at Brookshire Methodist Church Sunday night May 28 at 7 30 pm. The event aims to inspire both adults and youth and admission is free. No Sunday morning service will be held due to Rev G Z Sadler preaching a baccalaureate sermon in Pattison at 11 am.

Pattison School Closes With May 28 Exercises

Pattison schools hold closing exercises Friday night May 28 in the gymnasium. Nine seniors including valedictorian Lillian Lass and salutatorian Dorothy Greer to receive diplomas with Hon. C. D. Jessup Jr. of Houston as speaker. Baccalaureate at Pattison Methodist Church May 23 at 11 a.m. Bus routes run Friday morning and students take report cards home for lunch.

James Ferguson Helms Dies in Houston at 38

James Ferguson Helms aged 38 died last Friday at his Houston home. He is survived by his wife, three children, his parents, and three sisters. He previously attended Katy school and was a familiar figure in the community.

Glick Funeral Held Tuesday

F. O. Glick 68 of Bay City a Gulf Oil retiree died Sunday morning. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2 p.m. in Patterson Methodist Church with Brookshire Masonic lodge No. 1066 in charge of burial. Survivors include his widow five daughters three sons and three sisters.

The Brookshire club hosted a May 12 dinner at Sealy Club and Grill with Mrs. Bess Scott of the Houston club presenting their charter from the National Federation. Isabel Martin accepted the charter as president and Emma Wander spoke for the group. musical numbers and group singing followed alongside distinguished guests Gladys Allensworth Mildred Overall and Mayme A Blades.

Ladies Softball Meeting Plans Wednesday Play

Women are invited to play softball every Wednesday afternoon at Katy High School grounds. About thirty attended a Monday night meeting at the school. The group plans to form as many teams as possible for fun and social play.

Katy High School Graduation Exercises Announced

Dr. Wilton W. Cook of the University of Houston will deliver the commencement address to Katy High School graduates Tuesday at 8:00 p.m. in the old gym. Loyce Ellington and Norma Kelley will give the salutatory and valedictory. diplomas will be presented by I. L. Southard, president of the school board. Rev. Durwood Blackwell speaks at the Baccalaureate on Sunday. The choir, directed by Rev. George Threlkeld, will perform.

Katy Recreation Bonds Aimed at Local Project Funding

The Katy Recreation Planning Board met Tuesday afternoon to set plans for a community recreation program. To raise funds and advertise the project it was decided to sell Recreation Defense Bonds. Each contributor will receive a band as a personal stake in the program. Mrs. Roy Hamilton and Mr. Jack Rhodes were chosen as directors.

New Arrival Births Reported for Edwards and Finch Families

A baby girl named Cynthia was born Friday May 14 to Mr and Mrs C H Edwards with a weight of 8 pounds 7 ounces. Mother and baby are doing well and arriving home Wednesday morning. Mr and Mrs Odell Finch of Pattison welcome a baby girl on May 18 weighing 7 1 2 pounds.
