Addicks VFW Post Aims for Strong Community Role

The Addicks Post of the Veterans of Foreign Wars led by Commander Harry Patsly has 25 charter members and draws members from Kety Sugarland Addicks Howlville Alief. Meetings are the first and last Wednesdays monthly at the Woodman of the World Hall in Addicks with refreshments served at the initial meeting. The post seeks funds to obtain its own meeting place and increase influence in VFW affairs.

History installment returns to Katy readers after delay

Little Flower of Jesus Club Meets at Mrs Kosh Home

The Little Flower of Jesus Club gathered at Mrs J Kosh's home last Thursday at eight o'clock. Members presented sports by Mrs M Somer ford Mr Bruno Krolczyk and George. Kosh read the fourth and fifth chapters in the Catholic Bible. The next meeting will be at St Marys Catholic Church on Sunday May 16 after Benediction. All Catholics urged to join the study club.

Hempstead residents traveled to Houston to hear Nelson Eddy perform last week. Reports say several young ladies remain star struck and singing Sweetheart Sweetheart, making it hard for local suitors to match the lasting charm of the performer.

Mrs Z K Beyler 39 of Brookshire died at Baylor Hospital Dallas Tuesday morning. Survived by husband Z K Beyler two daughters Anna Ruth and Lucilee her father C L Davis brother Ralph Davis and others. Funeral Friday 4 p m at Methodist Church with Rev Hardt and Rev Houck officiating. Born near Virginia Illinois June 18 1897 moved to Brookshire 1904. Married May 31 1919. Burial details not listed.

Brookshire to Send Max Wander to State Shrine Ceremonial

Brookshire will send lead citizen Max Wander as its entry in the All-State Shrine Ceremonial in Wichita Falls Texas on May 21. A 32 member drill team from the Patrol will travel from Houston Arabia Temple to Wichita Falls May 20 23 for the events.

The Weather Bureau forecast shows scattered showers mainly in the north portion around Wednesday with temperatures near normal. Regions covered include Southern Plains and West with generally mild conditions expected through May 15.

Brookshire to host Chevrolet Automo tive theatre on wheels

Local dealer J C Day sponsors a talking motion picture program shown from a mobile Chevrolet Automotive unit in Brookshire. The vehicle features a 201 inch wheelbase, built in projector, PA system, Delco power plant, rising top, and translucent screen for large crowds. A trained operator will run the show and the public is invited Friday night around 8 in front of the post office.

Judge A B Anderson reports Texas Highway Commission approves 160000 for 3.7 miles of Brookshire to the River on Highway 73 and 6.7 miles in Austiin County from the river to Sealey with additional drainage funds. praise given to local leaders for securing the relief.

Little Mike Fails To Find Home Bull Boots In County

Advice says Little Mike left Waller county to buy boots after a strike by bulls left no hides. A humped back bull reportedly led others toward the timber, proving bulls are wise to preparations for new boots. Mike heads to Houston for the footwear.

Hempstead COC Banquet At High School Auditorium

About 100 persons attended the Hempstead Chamber of Commerce banquet last Friday at the High School Auditorium. A fine program featured piano selections, an address of welcome by W. Roy Wright, a response by Judge W. B. Browder, and an activities report by B. L. Davis. 4-H Club boys and an outstanding farmer were honored by J. W. Bush.
