Mrs Howard Grimet opens Mandy's Tots to Teens Shop in Brookshire at Fifth and Gresham streets. The converted garage displays childrens dresses and lingerie with air conditioning and a bright yellow floor. Opening day is Saturday May 7 with merchandise giveaways.
The KK Home Demonstration Club will hold a pastry sale at Dube's in Katy on Saturday May 7 at 2 o'clock. All types of cake and pies will be available.
Two Katy School Board seats and two Harris County positions are up for election on Saturday May 7. Incumbents D B Elder and G L Short seek re election for a second term on the Katy board while J W Cardiff Spring Branch and Mrs J W Shelor Houston seek the Harris posts. Election officials include Jack Kinberger Miss Louise Schlipf and P C Pitts. Polls will open 7 00 a m and close 7 00 p m.
The public is invited to a piano recital by pupils of Evelyn Schmidt in the Elementary School Visual Aids Room Friday May 6 at 8 00 p.m. Participants include Becky Cardiff William Card iff Beverly Jordan Gregory Longenbaugh Beth Metzger Ruth Metzger Verna Karen Hahentene Carolyn Swogetin sky.
Brookshire Lions Havel announces a June 2 barbecue dinner at the Brookshire School cafeteria from 6 30 to 8 30 pm. Plates cost 1 00 with proceeds aiding Kerrville Crippled Center Boy Scouts eye glasses for the needy city insecticides park maintenance Christmas lights and local fire department efforts.
A poem honoring mothers on Mother's Day. It lists relentless chores from morning to night including cleaning, cooking, shopping, ironing, gardening, and budgeting, noting there is no time for rest. The verses celebrate a mother's tireless care and dedication.
Four Katy High School students will represent Katy at Brenham's 65th Annual Maifest on May 14. Duchess Athene Bundick and escort John Fisher lead the court, with Duchess Madelyn-Sue Freeman and escort George Miller, plus Queen Marion Byrom, Brenham natives with Katy ties. Royal events run 10 a.m. parade and 8 p.m. coronation. coverage planned on KTV and KPRC TV.
Mrs James Givens left Wednesday to be at the bedside of her father W H Phillips who is quite ill in Infleside.
Katy Junior-Senior High School students cheer added vigor as they begin swimming in the new indoor pool. The pool measures 82 ft 7 in by 30 ft with 11 ft depth at the deepest point and is used before the recreation building is fully completed. A summer recreation schedule will be announced by Coach Ralph C. McCord.
Buddy Rheman of Simonton died when a bulldozer hit a 24 inch gas line on the Hunt farm near Brookshire. A 10 am blast and fire followed, with responders from Brookshire and Wallis managing the scene. Rheman’s funeral is set for Thursday in Simonton with interment in Houston. Survivors include his wife, two stepchildren, parents, siblings, and in laws.
Brookshire Elementary students present a closing program titled May Fete at 7 30 in the school's covered play area. The event features the King Lynn from the House of Sturm and Queen Barbara from the House of Bollinger and their court. Everyone is invited.
The Katy National Bank officially opened Monday at 9 a.m. President F B Cornelius welcomed visitors and thanked directors and Dr L W Bing for efforts. Dallas banker W A Sandlin cut the ribbon and announced open house to follow. staff and depositors served coffee and doughnuts.
Katy Alumni Association met in the school administration building to plan the June 4 banquet in the cafeteria. Committees were assigned to arrange the program decorations and food as alumni are urged to save the date for an evening with former classmates.
The Altar Society of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church will sponsor a ham dinner at noon on Sunday May 22. The meal costs 1.00 and includes ham potato salad rice and gravy green beans and drink. Pies and cakes will be for sale for dessert with advance tickets available starting May 8.
Whitt Bains Jr states all mail for the evening train must be at Brookshire post office by 4 35 pm. The train now arrives at 5 03 pm. In the morning mail bags close at 9 45.
Members of the First Baptist Church of Katy led by Don Morrison solicit money and materials for the Christian Rural Overseas Program. Contributions must reach the Houston office by June 1 for packing. Dedication of Friendship set for 2 p.m. June 15. Gifts include food, clothing, sewing machines, blankets, seeds, tools, and more with specific dollar-to-item estimates.
