Katy Builders Form New Trade Association

A group of Katy builders formed the Katy Builders Association in the Colorado Savings & Loan conference room on February 22. Olen Bachler was elected Chairman with Frank Taylor as Vice Chairman and Eric Lundsen as Secretary-Treasurer. They plan to assist in drafting a Katy building code and support orderly growth with Mayor Hudgens and City Council.

Jane Diforio Receives DAR Good Citizenship Award

Miss Jane Diforio of Katy High School is chosen by the senior class for the DAR Good Citizenship Award presented by the Fort Bend Chapter. Candidates are judged on dependability leadership service and patriotism with faculty selecting the winner. Jane is active in Drama Club FHA FTA FS sings in the FHA Octet and serves as president of the Spanish Club and National Honor Society.

Katy Little League Try Outs Set for March 11

Try outs for Katy Little League take place at Little League Field on Saturday March 11 at 1 00 pm. Boys who played minor league last year and new community entrants should try out for the majors. Those who played in a minor league last year and will not be 18 before August 1 stay on the same team and do not need to try out. Senior division try outs will be announced after all application cards are received.

Six Candidates File In Brookshire

The Brookshire city election sees six candidates file by the March 3 deadline. For mayor incumbents Robert N. Henry and Frank H. Stallknecht filed. For commissioner seats, incumbent Murray Diskin plus R. T. Cray, Ralph Waters, and E. H. Speir entered. Election date is April 1967 at the Brookshire Municipal Building.

Eight File For Katy City Election

Voters head to the Katy city election on April 4 with a mayoral race between E. Buck Freeman and Ward Stanberry. Ward A will choose a mayor and two aldermen, while Ward B picks a mayor and two aldermen. Aldermen candidates include Robert Redus, Mert on E. Watts, M. N. Buster Newman, Frank G. Taylor, Sid C. Creech Jr., and Richard A. Green. Buck Freeman resigned as alderman to run for mayor, leaving one year of unexpired term to be filled.

Flower Show Tuesday By Friendship Garden Club

The Friendship Garden Club presents The Beauty of Spring, its 9th annual flower show on Tuesday March 14 at the VFW Center in Katy. The event runs 2:30 to 6:00 p.m. with free admission and refreshments. Flower show chairman is Mrs. Melvin Scott and club president is Mrs. Raymond Barker.

Bids For City Well To Be Opened Thursday

Bids for the new city water well will be received at the City Secretary's office until 1:30 p.m. March 9. They will be opened publicly and read aloud with the public invited. The well will supplement the present water supply. See CITY, pg. 9.

Go Western Day Declared in Katy For March 16

Katy officials issue a proclamation naming March 16 as Western Day to boost the Katy Fat Stock Show and Rodeo events set for March 17 and 18 in Katy Texas. Mayor J E Hudgens signs the proclamation urging all residents and workers to wear western attire.

Truck to Pickup Trash Friday in Katy

The City of Katy will furnish trucks to haul trash on Friday March 20 in cooperation with the Chamber cleanup campaign before the FFA Show next weekend. Citizens are urged to take advantage of the city service.

Five Seek School Board Positions in Katy Election

Five candidates announced for two Katy School Board seats in the April 1 election. Harvey L. Johnson and Johnny G. Simalik seek Position No. 7 to challenge incumbent Hal V. Cardiff, while Dr. James K. Williams and L. E. "Ex" Moffett run for Position No. 6. Incumbent D. E. Elder is not seeking re election. Absentee voting runs March 13 to 28 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Administration Building.

Clothing Drive Set for Next Saturday by Brookshire Scouts

The Brookshire Cub Scouts sponsor a clothing drive on Saturday March 11 from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. They need school age children’s clothing and shoes, with donations packed by size in boxes. Drop at the old City Cafe or call WE 4-2390 after Saturday for pickup.

Royal Girls Basketball Team Reaches State Finals in Austin

The Royal Falcons travel to San Marcos for Regional V action and earn a spot in the state finals in Austin. After opening with Florence High School a 63 to 45 win led by Jur ries 30 Bollinger 27 and Keuneke 4, they beat Navarro 73 to 45 to advance to the finals against Dime Box.

Services Held Monday For Joyce Waldrip

Funeral services were held for Joyce Vernell Waldrip at the First Methodist Church in Brookshire with Rev. W. Oscar Thompson and others officiating. Interment followed at Memorial Oaks Cemetery. She died from injuries in a Feb 23 car train accident in Irving. Her four month old son remains in fair condition.

Public Invited To Visit Katy Schools Week Open House

Houston Baptist Choir to Sing Friday at Katy School

On March 10 the Katy High School Choir and Student Council will present the Houston Baptist College Singers in concert at 2:00 p.m. in the auditorium. The public is invited. The Singers, directed by R Paul Green with Don Looser on piano, have performed for Baptist groups and civic clubs since 1963.

Mrs R Streckfuss and Calvin Ehlert file for two Royal School Board seats as election set for April 1 1967. Polling sites: Royal High School Gym Pattison and Royal Elementary School Brookshire. Incumbent Ehlert seeks Position 3 while Mrs Evelyn Streckfuss seeks Position 4. James Sadler who held Position 4 previously did not file this year. Volleyball Tourney at Katy this Weekend Showcases Local Teams

The eighth and seventh grade girls volleyball teams travel to Katy for their first annual tournament this Friday and Saturday March 10 and 11. Teams include Waller Orchard Sealy Needville Spring Lamar El Campo and Katy with trophies for 1st 2nd and consolation and an All Tournament team. Friday games start 4 30 pm Lamar vs Orchard 5 30 Sealy vs Needville 6 30 Valley vs Spring 7 30 Katy vs El Campo. Saturday action begins 1 00 pm with finals at 7 00 and 8 00 pm.
