The Lions Club will present the Womanless Wedding on March 9 with the dress rehearsal Friday night at Brookshire School Auditorium. Members can arrange ticket sales and attendance for a night of humor and community entertainment.
Final plans are under way for the Katy F F A Fat Stock Show Quarter Horse Show and Rodeo to be held March 16 and 17. L D Robinson Chapter supervisor met with rodeo breeding cattle and quarter horse committees Thursday night. The sales and parade committees meet Monday. The show is a popular annual event drawing large crowds, backed by devoted local men. For complete program see the advertisement elsewhere in this paper.
The Sealy Council No. 3318 held an initiation Sunday February 25. First and second degrees were conferred by the St Bernard Council with the third degree given by the Taylor Council. C D Townsend received all three degrees. Other Katy members included Jim Tesar Deputy Grand Knight Willie Mack Presley Schoeneman and Lloyd Ernstes.
D Townsend of the West Side Grocery meat department gave a cutting and buying demonstration to Homemaking II students supervised by Mrs. Homer Sherbert. The nineteen pupils learned proper preparation of each beef cut after studying a chart on cuts. Townsend, a butcher for 45 years, has presented similar demos in San Antonio and Houston.
The Katy P T A meets Tuesday at 2:80 in the Homemaking Department rooms with refreshments for members and guests. Mrs. Raymond Collins and Mrs. A W Thompson hostesses. The 8 p.m. program in the Visual Aid room features a panel on Shall the High Schools Teach Marriage Education and Family Relationships with Miss Mary Jane Thomson and three students from Lamar Consolidated plus local participants Mrs. Alton Adcock and Mrs. Glen Bundick.
Pattison Public Schools join Governor Allen Shivers in observing March 4 through March 10 as Public School Week. The program invites parents and friends to visit classrooms, inspect books, music, art, physical education, cafeteria, buildings, and equipment.
Public School Week in Texas runs March 4 to 10 1951 with officials urging citizens to visit schools. Visitors may tour buildings observe classes inspect equipment and meet teachers and principals. The aim is citizenship education and to showcase public education under legal attendance.
Katy Public Schools join statewide observance March 5 to 10 with the theme Texas Public School Democracy in Action. Parents and patrons are invited to visit the school, tour facilities, and inspect programs and achievements, including a 10 20 assembly on Wednesday morning.
G T Pier contractor for curb and gutter work in Brookshire nears completion with about 5400 feet of curbing at 1.45 per foot. Roy Hammerling leads grading to the curb as drainage plans advance with the Highway Department Engineers. Pattison assists.
The Katy Brookshire Fulshear Shrine Cripple Children’s Ball and Entertainment drew a large crowd last Saturday. Local talent from the string band high school sextette and Alice Townsend School of Dancing performed, with Houston acts praised. Lambert Moebes and his Sterliters were complimented for dance music as the Old Gym hosted the event. C A Chase of the Arcic Temple in Houston thanked supporters and organizers for their effort.
Mrs. Whit Bains and Mr. Whit Se attended funeral services for her sister Mrs. Lawrence Alford, 72, in Center on Sunday afternoon. Interment was in Shelbyville cemetery. Oliver Badger of San Bernito Texas was electrocuted on power company lines. Dr. and Mrs. J D Motheral Sr attended the funeral of her brother Earl W Howard at Pearsall. We extend sincere sympathy.
In line with Governor Allan Shivers proclamation to mark March 4 through 10 as Public School Week the Brookshire Lodge No. 1066 A F and A M endorses the observance and urges members and the public to visit local schools where possible W T Bolton W M.
The Ladies Auxiliary of Floyd E. Breedlove Post 9182 will host a public institution at Recreation Hall on Saturday night March 10. Interested women may contact Mrs. Charles Wilson or Mrs. Eugene Poorman to join. Proof of overseas veteran relatives suffices for eligibility. Mrs. Alta Lee Duryea will attend as secretary treasurer of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW Dept. of Texas.
Mrs. Pauline Hartman entered Sealy Hospital Saturday for treatment. Mrs. Willie Wilpitz underwent surgery last Friday morning in Sealy Hospital and is reported to be doing fine.
Funeral services for Francis Joshua Wells 71 were held at 3 p m February 21 at his Brookshire home with Rev G A O Quinn Rev R B Moon and Rev Jim Hayes officiating the First Baptist Church Choir provided music Interment followed at Pattison Cemetery Pallbearers included C J Rheman George Rheman and others Wells born April 20 1879 in Palmico NC moved to Brookshire in 1904 farmer served as school trustee and precinct 4 commissioner He died February 23 after a ten month illness survived by wife Florence a daughter Mrs Jack Bailey a granddaughter Florence Beth Bailey and a grandson Joe Wells Bailey of Rosenberg.
Citizens of Brookshire are urged to use the City Dump two miles south of Brookshire off Fulshear Rd for all trash refuge and junk. The dump has been cleaned up by County bulldozers after many failed attempts to dispose near the highway. Commissioner Guy T. Pattison Jr. had the area cleaned up and will appreciate cooperation. Regular county trash pickup occurs every fourth Thursday of the month.
The Brookshire P. T. A. will hold its annual meeting March 7 at 2 30 pm. The topic is Cultivating in Children a Taste for the Good led by Mrs. G Z Sadler. All members are urged to attend this meeting.
Friends from Katy visit Mrs. W. E. Freeman in Memorial Hospital room 639 and Mrs. J. M. Stewart in room 303 for medical support and companionship.
Balke L. Mahler buys Goynes Hardware and Appliances from Cecil Goynes. The store will be named Katy Hardware and run with similar policies. Mahler adds rice well pumps, formerly worked at Jacuzzi Pump Co and Peden Iron and Steel. He is married to Amelia Belle Briscoe and resides in Belair. He is Orchard born and a two year overseas veteran with B 21 service in multiple theaters.
The VFW boys lead a cleanup at the Katy veterans center property with six acres broken by Jack Dyson and helpers. Rice Belt Implement Co provided a plow and tractor. Van Scroggins and others used bulldozers. W. D. Avera supplied tractors. Katy Hub Club bought swings for the center.
C R England and John England return from Austin where the Texas Dehydrator Association held its annual state meeting. Retiring president England hosted speakers from the American Dehydrator Association and A M College leaders. Newly elected officers include President Chris Shurer Sherman and Vice President C R England Brookshire.
Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Brown and their family traveled to Huntsville to visit relatives on Sunday, sharing a family outing in the local community.
