Texas Senate Joint Resolution proposes poll tax exemption for veterans
A Texas Senate Joint Resolution proposes amending Article VI to add a section allowing military personnel and reserves and certain veterans to vote without poll tax payments during wartime or within a set period after. It outlines eligibility, restricted voting for regular Army Navy Marines, and ballot form, election timing, proclamations, and funding.
Proposed Section 2a on voting rights for armed forces members
A new Section 2a would protect military members from poll tax requirements during wartime or within a year after war ends, provided they are otherwise qualified voters. It excludes regular Army Navy and Marine Corps personnel and clarifies non-regular forces are not barred from voting by the fifth subsection. The amendment is placed as Article VI Section 2a with statewide submission details and related proclamations.
