Waller County Widow Wins Land Suit Victory
Mrs. Irene Smith of Waller County has been adjudged true owner of 700 acres valued at $10,000 after Federal Judge T M Kennerly ruled that Flora Scott of Arkansas and her family have no title or interest in the land. Judge Kennerly found the land was purchased with Smiths share of partnership proceeds. Scott had no stake. Smith, about 30, built her independence through store work blackberry picking and farming while partnering in a Houston area store with Scott who died in 1938. testimony showed she acted as nurse and did most store work.
