A year into writing for Brookshire's newspaper, DeWanda shares updates on family vacations from New Orleans to the Bahamas, visits by relatives from Atlanta and Langdale, and local church assignments. Mr and Mrs F Alfred Matzke celebrate their wedding in Rapid City South Dakota where Connie Lester became Mrs Matzke. The couple now reside in Minot North Dakota where he works as an aerospace engineer with Boeing. He is a Royal High School 1960 and University of Texas 1965 graduate, son of E F Matzke of Brookshire.
Reverend A. L. Roberts and Mrs. Roberts leave for Beaumont where he will lead Memorial Methodist. The new congregation sits on the west side of Beaumont near the freeway. He has served Pattison Sulphur churches for five years.
In Brookshire many friends mourn the passing of Mrs Roberts who had long stood as a neighbor and steadfast presence in the community. Her memory remains in local gatherings and conversations among those who knew her well.
Card of Thanks lists Debra Hoyt as Yankee sweetheart and Katy queen elect. She earned an AA diploma with honorable mention in Who's Who and will work as a Girl Scouts counselor in Corpus during June and July.
Brookshire, Sears Roe Buck sponsor an essay contest with five awards. Daniel Brubaker won the first prize last week and collected his pig in Hempstead on Thursday. He will travel with his mother to San Marcos Sunday to enroll Daniel at the Baptist Academy for six weeks of classes. Betty Phillips graduated from Wharton Junior College.
