Service Garage Opens New Service Station in Fulshear

The Service Garage Co announces the formal opening of its Humble Service Station and Garage in Fulshear on June 8 and 9. Attendees receive gifts including an electric toaster and a fishing rod with reel. The firm began in 1935 and expanded in 1946 with Ed Helwig, Roy Helwig, and Harry Krause running the operation.

Harris County Red Cross Delegation Heads to St Louis

Jackie Rhodes leads a 26 member Harris County group to the National Junior Red Cross Convention in St Louis from June 3 to 8. They depart Houston Saturday at 1 p.m. and expect to return Friday morning around 7 a.m. A chartered bus carries eight Harris County members plus Mrs Mamie B Ward and six associates. Housing is arranged at George Washington University. Fifty seven Red Cross members from the area also attend the event.

Drilling Begins In City Of Katy First Well Authorized

At a May 31 meeting City of Katy issued a Humble Oil permit to drill within city limits. Work started on the Brand property west of the creek with access via Dale Mint land in Unit 2. City supplies water. R O Collins represented Humble at the meeting.

Local Lions Send Youth To Camp

Mr and Mrs Kenneth Schulte returned from Kerrville with 10 year old Tommy Kirk to attend a two week Lions Crippled Childrens Camp. Tommy, hearing impaired after a horse kick at age four, previously suffered a lawn mower injury. His mother Mrs Billye Eplen nurses in Houston and visits Brookshire. The Lions Club participates in a state program serving 720 handicapped children each summer at the Kerrville camp three miles south of town.

Funeral services held Friday for Evelyn Belunek in Frydek

Evelyn Delores Belunek died May 30 in St Luke's Hospital Houston after long illness. Funeral Mass at St Mary's Church Frydek followed rosary at home. Born Oct. 23 1929, she married Joe Belunek in 1947 and lived in Frydek. Survived by husband, parents Stash and Gajewski, siblings Pete August Orsak Sowa and others. pallbearers listed.

Ralph Bunche To Open June 20th

The Kaipa Bunche summer session marks the start of the 1956-57 term and will run about six weeks beginning June 20th. This allows a later fall start while Negro children may assist in the harvest. Brookshire Methodist Bible School Begins Next Week

The Vacation Bible School at the First Methodist Church in Brookshire starts June 11 for five days weekly over two weeks ending June 22. Sessions run each morning with nursery and classes for ages 3 to 4 and a nursery for workers' children. Superintendents include Mrs. Jack Donald and others. Transportation can be arranged via Mrs. Billy Harrison.

Jet pilot Bailout Near Katy After Plane Fire

Lt. Edwin McKeller of the Blue Angels bailed out of a jet near Katy after his plane caught fire on descent from an air show trip from Santa Anna to Pensacola. He landed wet and torn clothing, was aided by Ellington Air Force Base personnel, and the wreckage was found Monday on the Warren Ranch.

Negro Lad Hit Crossing Highway

Seven year old Jerome Gary was injured Wednesday near Memorial Day when struck by a 1953 Ford driven by Hollis A. Bible of Houston at Otto Street and Highway 90 in Brookshire. He remained unconscious at Hempstead hospital with head injuries after a Schmidt ambulance transported him.

Earl Andrews Elected President of Citizens Council

Earl Ollis Andrews was elected president of the newly formed Citizens Council at Pattison in a Tuesday evening meeting. A board of directors will be chosen at the EP’s next gathering planned for Thursday, June 14. About 100 attendees heard Sealy attorney W. D. Bryan discuss The Origin of The Constitution, while James Sadler spoke on Infiltration of Communism in the National Council of Churches.

Annie Margaret Wooding died at her daughter’s home in Spring Village on June 4. Final arrangements await word from son Howard Wooding in Washington. Born June 6 1894 in Missouri she married C. A. Brookshire Lions Club Barbecue At School Cafeteria

Brookshire Lions Club holds its annual barbecue at the Brookshire School Cafeteria with serving starting at 6 30 pm. Tickets cost 1 00 and proceeds support local projects with donors including Roy Muske Jack Dalton Arthur Robichaux and Brookshire Frozen Food Center. Bond and Maintenance Tax Election For Katy ISD

Katy Independent School District voters will decide on raising the Bond and Maintenance tax rate from 1.75 to the constitutional limit of 2.00 per 100 valuation. The 1968 rate set the base. if approved the budget would rise about 18000, funded by a fourth teacher and other costs including salaries and field lighting.
