Brookshire Man Appointed Representative for Provident Mutual Life

The Houston Agency of Provident Mutual Life Insurance announces Bob Sage of Brookshire as representative for the area. Sage resigned from Royal High School band duties to take the post and begins training in insurance principles with ongoing education. He’ll attend a Philadelphia orientation week in December with his wife Roberta and children Bruce and Kelleye, members of First Methodist Church of Brookshire.

Diane Halbison Crowned Waller County Farm Bureau Queen

At the Waller County Farm Bureau annual meeting and barbecue held July 21 at the Waller County Fair Grounds, Diane Halbison of Brookshire won the queens contest with Bes sie Sturm placing second. Halbison will represent the county in the District 11 Queens contest August 28 in Katy, Texas.

Mass Polio Immunization Drive Plans Saturday Clinic

The Sabin oral polio vaccine will be offered at Brookshire Elementary and Pattison High School on July 28 from 2 to 8 p.m. All residents are urged to participate with options for transportation from Bob Burton and Clemons schools. A public drive includes volunteers, bus service, and future immunization steps to cover Type I Type III polio vaccines.

Polio Immunization Drive Draws 3020 in Katy

A total of 3020 persons received polio vaccine at Katy on Sunday. Dr. L W Bing, clinical director, praised the turnout and urged any area residents not yet immunized to come forward for protection.

Brookshire Fire School Delegates Earn 5 Percent Credit

Brookshire volunteers Leo Goates Bill Stadknecht and Thomas Leggett attend the Texas A and M firemen school with Katy representations Fred Rylander Chester Hill and Clyde Grimet. The program provides a 5 percent fire insurance credit and includes courses from basic to advanced firefighting and marshal training.

Rice Growers Honor Ira Southard With Gold Cufflink Tie Clip

The Katy Division of The American Rice Growers Association honored Mr. Ira Southard for 13 years on the central board at Lake Charles Louisiana and on the executive committee. Hal Cardiff presented the gold cufflink tie clip at a July 10 board meeting. Southard has made many trips to Washington and remains on the Blue Ribbon Rice Mill board. Arthur Robichaus will be replaced by Bill Cardiff on the central board this year.

National Girl Scout Saving Award Given to Joyce Rhodes

Joyce Rhodes a 13 year old Katy Girl Scout received the National Girl Scout Life Saving Award at the Katy Day Camp. She acted to save her 4 year old cousin Donnell Henry from drowning after he fell from a Caney Creek pier. The award was presented by Mrs Charles Parks Westward District Coordinator.
