Dr. L A Woods state superintendent hails Katy ISD as setting a standard for high schools. The dedication of the new junior-senior high, near United States Highway 90, outlines a 20-classroom plant with gymnasium, shops, sciences, home making and agriculture, serving Harris Fort Bend and Waller counties.

Katy ISD urges quick payment of school taxes before deadline

W. Dy Fussell, tax collector for the Katy Independent School District, reports 96.5 percent of current school taxes paid with a February 29 1948 delinquent relief offer for one year penalties if paid in full by February 29 1948. Delinquent notices not to be sent annually, office in room 117 Katy High School. State county and poll taxes due January 31 with local payment options at Miller Motor Company for Harris County residents and R A Roberts Magnolia Bulk Station for Fort Bend County residents.

Donations to Baptist Parsonage Fund Reported

Mrs. Edd Wirpitz contributed 1200 to the Baptist parsonage fund along with others like Mrs Proctor Mary Helen Cox 250 and Mrs Lela Farrar 25. Several supporters have given or pledged to the building fund while work is delayed at pregem until sheet rock and brick are shipped.

Mexican Supper at Brookshire Church Friday

Brookshire Methodist church hosts a Mexican supper Friday January 23 from 6 to 8 p m in the Brookshire school cafeteria. Tickets are 125 and proceeds fund the new parsonage furnishings.

Katy Baptist Church Ends Year Marked With Progress

The First Baptist Church of Katy closed the old year with progress and thanks. The Finance Committee led by A E Thompson raised over 13000 dollars Oct Dec to reduce church indebtedness. Gifts included a water well by E B Longenbaugh and Mae Monigold supplying a projector. The pastor attended a regional meeting with six others. Sunday School 9 45. worship 11 00. Training Union 6 30. evening 7 30. Midweek prayer 7 30 Wednesday.

Cook's Confectionery proprietor George Cook Sr dies in Sealy Hospital

George Cook Sr proprietor of Cook's Confectionery in Sealy died at Sealy Hospital at 11 08 Wednesday morning. He had operated the store for years and was well known in the community. His death leaves a vacancy at the local confectionery shop.
