On January 14 a Brookshire Chamber of Commerce meeting selected inaugural board members led by President Charles Froebel and Vice President L Lovehn. Charles Powell to manage by-laws,Melvin Venable and others named directors. Houston Chamber speaker Bob Brewer offered launch ideas. Members urged support with annual dues set at 25 000.

School Census Underway in Royal Independent School District

The 1965 66 school census is being taken this month in the Royal Independent School District. Parents with six year olds to enroll should return completed blanks or contact the district to obtain a form. Officials seek child name birth month date year and age as of September 1 1965. Census limited to January.

Four Apartments Under Construction In Katy

TW. D. Mayberry has an apartment building under construction in Katy. The project will include four two bedroom units, two downstairs and two upstairs, using the same plans as his Brookshire apartments. He purchased a 200 by 217 foot site on East Avenue from Mae Kemp for the project. Parking will be provided on the property.

Funeral Services for Thomas J. Baker Jr Held Wednesday

Thomas J. Baker Jr forty one died of a heart attack while feeding cattle on his ranch. He was born September 25 1923 in Pattison and served in World War II in the South Pacific. He married Lucille Boesling in 1946 and later Gloria Lee Baker in 1954.Interment was at Pattison Methodist Cemetery.

Harris County Hospital District Vote Set This Saturday

Harris County residents will vote on creating a county hospital district and a tax levy not to exceed 100 dollars per valuation. The measure would allow the district to assume all outstanding hospital bonds issued by Harris County and by cities within the county. In Katy, voting takes place at the fire station. voters must have poll tax or exemption and pay property tax.

Royal teams swept district play with girls beating Waelder 42 29 and Flatonia 51 4% while boys defeated Waelder 41 17 and Flatonia 57 21 led by Lynn Gosteenik 23 and 21 points respectively. Coaches praised team effort as records show 14 2 season.

Travis Sorsby Buys Sinclair Service In Brookshire

Travis Sorsby becomes owner of the Sinclair Station and garage on Highway 90 E in Brookshire. He purchased land building and equipment from Jer Pennington and opened the business on Saturday January 16. It will be named Sorsby Sinclair Station and Garage with Charles Kohler as part time mechanic. The Sorsbys reside in Pattison with former owner Bobbie Ehlert.

Pancake Supper At VFW Center This Saturday

The VFW post hosts a pancake supper at the TVW Community Center this Saturday January 23. Zachry Constr Readies For Work East of Brookshire

H B Zachry Construction Co leases a five acre site off FM 1468 south of Katy School on Fred Hoyt land to serve as headquarters for the Interstate 10 Katy to Brookshire project. Walter Waggoner named Project Manager with W M Pinegar as Project Engineer and Bill Guthery as District Superintendent. A water well is being drilled and a large repair shop building will be built. Work is set to begin Monday with a twenty month deadline to complete.

Ira Southard to spend two months in Pakistan and India

Ira Southard prepares for a two month stay in Pakistan and India as the first rice farmer in the Farm Leader Exchange under Farmers and World Affairs Inc. He will live with farming families while six other U S farmers join him. Mrs Southard will fly to Washington with him Sunday to meet other travelers and attend briefing sessions.

Building activity on Fred Hoyt land along IL 10

Construction begins on the Fred Hoyt land near Interstate 10 with H. B. Zachry leasing five acres for a shop and offices. A water well is being drilled, Texas Fiber Glass builds a 10 by 60 home and later a 20 by 60 storage and 12 by 15 office. Charles Hoyt and brother install sand blasting equipment. Fred Hoyt plans a trailer court. Utilities and underground cables are installed and gas line studies underway.

Katy FFA 42 Tournament Gets Underway Monday

The first return of the navy FRA 42 Tournament begins Monday January 25 with Alben present by 7 pm and games starting at 7 45 pm. Four teams per group will play a round robin of three 10 minute games. The top two from each group advance to the main event while the bottom two enter Thursday consolation.
