Commissioners Court Sets Salaries and hires deputies
The Commissioners Court met Monday with Judge Anderson and four commissioners present. They set county officer salaries and deputy salaries, banned oil exploration crews from shooting holes on county roads, and authorized two additional sheriff deputies. The court adjourned in memory of Geo. C. Crump with sympathy to his family. The court ordered the A and M Extension Department at Cal-Station to replace the county agent.

8 Sg t Fred Hammerling, son of Mr and Mrs Gus Hammerling, was killed in Germany on Dec 18 and notified by the War Department last Friday. He was 25 years old that day. Survived by parents, wife in Houston, four brothers Ray Richard Lawrence Pattison and Roland with the army in France, other relatives and friends grieve.

A county order passed Monday by the Commissioners Court bars shooting crews from using county roads or rights of way for oil exploration. Taxpayers complain the crews leave the roads in bad condition. residents are urged to report violations of this order.

Milk Route Anniversary Reflections From 1944 Delivery Boy
On January 15 1945 the writer recalls starting a milk delivery route a year earlier selling 18 quarts daily to customers including Mya Chan in Stockwick and Mrs Moe Alexander. He thanks customers and supporters who helped make the route successful and enjoyable.

Mrs Harris Smith Dies at Alpine After Brief Illness
Mrs Harris Smith aged 46 died at the local hospital after an emergency operation for a brief illness. She and her husband had come from the Fresno mine in the Big Bend for the holidays. Funeral services were held at the Methodist church with Rev Marvin Williams officiating. Interment was in Elm Grove cemetery. Surviving are the husband and three children, plus her mother, brother, and sister.

Crump Funeral Held for Former Waller County Judge
Funeral services for George C. Crump 66 former county judge of Waller County were conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Hempstead Methodist Church. Crump died Friday night at his Hempstead home after a brief illness. A native of Austin County he lived in Waller County for 50 years. He previously worked as a cashier at the Gurranty Bond State Bank in Waller and served six years as county judge after election in 1938. Surviving are his widow Emma Crump of Hempstead two daughters Mrs Minifred Mathews Genoa and Mrs Beverly Burgess Pleaston two sisters Mrs W L Ford and Mrs M C Amster of Hempstead and two brothers W M Crump Kenedy and J W Crump Austin.
