Katy Area B and P W Club Organizes

Katy area women met for the Business and Professional Women's meeting and decided to organize. The first meeting is set for January 26 with charter memberships open until February. Two meetings per four months are planned. Betty Murray was elected temporary chairwoman and Sally Reaves temporary secretary.

The First United Methodist Church in Katy opens its revival Sunday January 19 with Dr. Leo Allen preaching at 11:00 am and Dr. Robert Goodrich Jr. at 7:00 pm. Royal in County District Proposal Targets 2600 ADA

The Times publishes a map from the Governor's Committee showing Royal, Hempstead and Waller districts consolidated into a county wide district. Burglary Reported at Barker Post Office and Store

U S postal inspectors and Harris County sheriff investigate the Barker Store burglary. Auditor figures show about 135 dollars lost in cash and stamps plus 50 blank money order forms and a money order machine. Postmaster notes Barker Post Office had no prior burglaries.

Cleve Redus Named Lion of the Year by Borger Lions

J. Cleve Redus Jr a choir teacher at Katy has been named Lion of the Year by the Borger Texas Lions Club. He teaches junior high chair at Phillips Texas near Borger and moved with his wife Dana Kelly a former Katy teacher to Borger in 1967.

Brookshire Elections Set For January 14

Two Brookshire municipal water district directors will be chosen on January 14 at the Municipal Building Brookshire with three seats to fill. Re candidates include incumbents Max Wander and Ralph England. Brookshire Katy Drainage will elect Area 3 1 and 5 supervisors the same day with Cecil Beckendorff William H Moore and Joe K Moore seeking re election. Filing closes January 9.

Brookshire City Plans Police and Court Space Renovation

Brookshire City Council voted to alter the Munitifus Building interior to provide office space for police Chief and patrolmen and City Court visitors. Estimated cost 300 dollars. Dr J J Hopkins named City Health Officer for 1969. Traffic signs to be installed this week at patrol-selected sites. Public urged to watch for and obey signs. Planning committees to study garbage dumps vacant lots and a dog ordinance. Mayor Freeman of Katy attended to discuss the garbage dump. New disposal law set to take effect January 1 1969 prohibiting burning garbage.

Katy Chamber Elects Directors After January Ballot

Balloting completed January 3 for the Katy Chamber of Commerce directors. Frank Williams received 20 votes, John McJunkin 17, Van Scroggins 15, Olen Baehter 7, Wesley Nelson 9, and Dr Don Parish 10. Elected alongside them are Mae Kemp, Townsend, Arthur Miller, Oscar Fraley, and Ward Slanberry.

Community Center Debt Reduced to 10 000 in 1968

Ralph England reports the VIN Community Center loan from Katy Carks Inc. has been cut to 10 000 dollars as of 1968. The VEW thanks donors for 1968 contributions from the What Tily celebration the VFW Barkey Shoot and individuals. Further donations are hoped in 1969 to eliminate the debt.

Eagles Lake and Crosby Drew Rule Royal Tourney Titles

First Annual Royal Tourney champions were Eagle Lake girls and Crosby Drew boys. Runners up included Fayetteville and Sealy with Hempstead and Bellville earning second and third in the boys division. Individual honors went to Janet Bauer of Eagle Lake and Session of Drew.
