A new Chevrolet model goes on display starting Saturday January 7 at Brookshire Motor Company in Brookshire and Miller Motor Company in Katy. The rollout expands to two Texas dealerships inviting customers to view the latest vehicle.
Katy Independent School District will issue 425000 in bonds at an average rate of 2.0684 percent. Rauscher Pierce & Company and Shawell & Company of Houston won the bids amid eight bids from 22 firms. Proceeds fund a new elementary school building a cafeteria and high school addition.
Fred Hoyt of Katy entertained Brookshire Lions Club members with travel films from his family trips and Katy FFA Chapter. The programs drew keen interest and sparked talk of future travels. A PTA serving provided a tasty dinner.
Robertson Implement Co. prepares a twelve foot extension with a sheet iron foundation to be poured when weather allows. The addition will house an office and party room, sealed with sheet rock. Willie Ebel attended a New Year’s dinner at Mr. and Mrs. C F Trett’s home where turkey dressing quail duck and black eyed peas were served.
Times announces the Katy warehouse formerly owned by Mr. and Mrs. V. D. Avera is sold to J. D. and B. Ray Woods effective January 1, 1950. The Woods will operate as sole owners with Johnnie Morrison as manager. the facility features modern seed cleaning machinery currently in operation.
The Katy Booster Club schedules a regular meeting Monday night at 7 30. A planned program will be presented. The banquet committee for the band pep squad and football team will report. All members urged to attend.
Mrs Carrie McDonald operator at Brookshire Telephone Exchange has been ill this week. Her Texarkana daughter is visiting to help. Mr and Mrs Robert Avery spent the week end in Dallas and photographed the Cotton Bowl game. The Wilpitzes drove to Schulenburg. Ed Wilpitz and H C Cater visitors in Waller and Hempstead Brookshire Highway companions. O N England Jr and family spent holidays with B M Brandenberg of Buffalo Alabama.
Mrs. D. O. Martin returned from Austin on Monday after visiting her daughter Mrs. Jon Hughes. Mrs. Annie Glueck of Houston spent last week with home folks, including Mrs. Trettin, Mrs. T. S. Ehlert, and Mrs. John England.
The Tigers won their first district basketball game against the Sugar Land Alligators by 34 to 35. Jerry McKibben led scoring with 18 points while Robertson topped Sugarland with 8. Box Score.
Mr and Mrs E B McGee and daughters return home after visiting sisters Mrs J M Sandel and Mrs Geo Rheman Sr in North Charleston. Several families short trip to Baton Rouge and Chapel Hill. Mrs Eddie Malonaski recovering after NavaSota Hospital operation. formerly Annie May Sanders of Pattison. Visitors from Louisiana Beaumont Sealy and Edna Texas share holidays at Louis Sturm home. Hope Cooper back from Chickasha Oklahoma visit with daughter family.
A maroon Ford owned by Tommy Cox was stolen from his home and wrecked on Katy Rosenberg Road near Eston Denny’s. A negro male seen fleeing left a blood trail in a rice field. deputies and bloodhounds failed to track him.
Mr and Mrs R C Waldrip and their son visited Staples to celebrate the holidays with his parents.
Henry Luke Sears 80 died after a 10 day illness at his home on January 2. He was born November 16, 1869 in Roanoke VA and lived in Katy 51 years. Survived by wife Emma, daughter Myrtle, son Lee, four brothers, two sisters. Funeral at Magnolia Cemetery led by Rev Derwood Blackwell. Sears was a brick mason and long time farmer.
Katy faces Spring Branch and Pattison meets Bellville on Thursday as the Independent League opens in the area. The schedule also includes high school games, inviting fans to clip the schedule and attend both league and school contests.
