Public Schools Week Visits Scheduled March 3 6

Royal Independent and Katy schools invite parents and citizens to visit March 3 6 during Public Schools Week. Open-house, lunch in the cafeteria, and a Third Grade program at Royal Elementary are noted. Registration at each principal's desk. Last year about 700 visitors attended.

Brookshire Council Advances Sewer Extensions After Floods

Brookshire engineers studied drainage after heavy rainfall. A. Russell inspected double points. Water backups were centered along Purdy Street at Bath. The Municipal Water Board approved extensions on three existing sewer lines.

Burglars Nabbed By Katy Police

Katy police nabbed two burglars at 2:35 am at Mc Shan's Texaco Service Station. Chief Pat Adams and Raymond Guzman spotted suspects. a broken window and a crawl-in found inside. Suspects Greorg Allen Kouf and Harry Thomas Carlson faced charges and bail in Cypress.

License Tags Sold in Katy and Brookshire for Counties

Vehicle license tags are sold in Katy at Miller Motor Co for Harris County residents and in Brookshire Harrison Grocery for Waller County residents. Tags show RGB and REZ with numbers for Waller plates and cost equals 1968 rates with the minimum passenger tag at 12.30 dollars. Tags will be valid until midnight April 1st.

Katy FFA To Kick Off 26th Fat Stock Show Dinner

Katy FFA hosts a kick-off dinner Saturday March 1 in the High School Cafeteria from 7 to 7 45 p m. The program starts at 8 p m in the auditorium with variety acts and music as the public is invited to attend free after the dinner. Ben Oldag serves as Master of Ceremonies.

Don Burton wins scramble calf at Houston Fat Stock Show

Katy High School student Don Parton entered the Dairy Calf Scramble at the Houston Fat Stock Show on February 28 and won a $200 gift certificate to buy a registered dairy heifer. He was among 24 entrants, with 12 catching calves, and must purchase the heifer before May 1, 1969. His sponsor is George Prude of Borden Ice Cream.

Katy Special Trash Pickup Days Announced

The City of Katy prepares two special trash pickup days on Saturday March 1 and Saturday March 8 in cooperation with Clean Up Week. Residents should place refuse in loadable containers and tie tree limbs in bundles not exceeding 66 feet. Do not set out regular garbage on these days.

Filing Deadline March 5 for Brookshire Katy School and City Posts

March 5 is the final filing day for candidates in Brookshire and Katy. Brookshire terms of Mayor Stadknecht and aldermen Diskin and Speir expire with no filings yet. In Katy, mayors and ward seats are open with several filings including Sid Creech and Ward B contender Walt Stanberry, plus multiple school board candidates. Elections set for April 5.

Tigerettes Host Volleyball Tourney at Katy High School

Katy High School hosts its ninth annual girls volleyball tournament February 28 and March 1 in the high school gym. Eight teams compete across two rounds with finals and consolation matches, admission 50 cents adults and 25 cents students per session.

Brookshire Youth Killed in Rainy Highway Crash

Johnny M. Lewis, 20, of Brookshire, died in a two vehicle crash near Katy Hockley Cut-off four miles north of Longenbaugh Road. Willie Lewis, uncle of the deceased, drove the pickup with Richard Sams aboard as rain and loss of control caused a head on collision at the northeast bridge. The body was taken to Ben Taub Morgue while the other two men were treated at Hopkins Clinic. Patrolman Bobby Emby led the investigation.

Katy Library Adopts Four Afternoon Hours

The Harris County Branch Library in Katy announces a new schedule effective March 1. The library will be open Monday Tuesday Wednesday and Friday from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. year round with no summer changes. Located beside the Fire Station on Second Street, it invites public use and quotes librarian Mrs. Frank Taylor.

Dube's Grocery Ads To Run in The Times

Dube's Super Market will place weekly specials in The Times. Mr. Dube says the ads will start soon and become a regular feature to support the hometown paper. Specials run Thursday through Saturday.
