Moore and Son operate a new modern batching plant east of Katy, with three to four concrete trucks delivering ready mix. Mrs. Moore helps in the office as the firm marks years serving Katy since 1946 and relocation in 1954, with planned public open house after completion.
Five Eagle Scouts from Katy and one from Brookshire were honored at a banquet Friday night at the Shamrock Hilton Hotel for the Sam Houston area Eagle Scouts. Each scout named a prospective field of study and was sponsored by a qualified advisor.
Sam Wilson entered his horse Tony Buono in the quarter horse cutting contest at Pin Oak Stables last Monday. The best 36 horses will perform during the Fat Stock Show Rodeos. Wilson has two colts in the Houston Quarter Horse Breeders Assn Sale, a permanent registered year old fillie named Escola James and a sorrel filly named Dottie Bueno, daughter of Tony Bueno.
Katy High School senior Carolyn Lentz was chosen to represent Texas eighth congressional district in the DAR Good Citizens Contest. The district winner will be scored on a two hour exam taken Wednesday and evaluated by the Texas DAR committee in Fort Worth.
In BrookshireJustice G T Shearer’s court on Sunday morning R C Kenlon faced charges of disturbing the peace and resisting an officer. Deputy Sam Wilson and Constable Otto Kitzman reported an affray in a tavern Saturday night. Fines were 100 dollars and costs for the first offense and 200 dollars plus costs for resisting. The Brookshire Negro pleaded guilty and was committed to Waller County jail in Hempstead for nonpayment.
Sealy Auction Company reports a record 1958 total receipts of $13,593,677.95 from cattle hogs horses mules sheep and goats. Peak months were October for hogs, cattle in October, horses and mules in July, sheep and goats in June and October for total acreage.
Katy FFA sponsors two night talent show at the high school auditorium on Saturday March 7 from 8 to 10 pm. Poncho a top radio TV star will serve as master of ceremonies and sing Spanish songs. The event features diverse acts and is free to the public. George Roesner of KPRC and KPRC TV arranged Poncho’s appearance.
The Brookshire Juniors lost the A game 17 to 10 and the B game 17 to 16 in overtime against Damon. Danny Spencer led Brookshire with 4 points in the A game while coach Flindee signals a key practice ahead of March.
Two candidates filed for Katy city commissioner seats at noon Tuesday. Commissioner Joe K. Moore filed for re election and Fred Rylander is the other candidate. Filing runs until March 7 to appear on the April 7 ballot.
Brookshire Boy Scout Troop 370 sponsors a chili supper at Brookshire School Cafeteria on Saturday March 7 from 6:30 to 7:30 PM. Adults pay 75 cents, children 50 cents. Proceeds fund camping activities and equipment for the scouts.
The Katy P T A will meet on March 3 at 2 20 in the Recreation Room. Director Theodore Lammert leads the program Educating for Citizenship.
The Dozier Farm Equipment Co. held its annual stockholders meeting the first Monday of the month at its business site. After a barbecue dinner the business session elected officers for the coming year: President Leon Miles of Addicks, Vice President Weldon Laas, and Secretary-Treasurer Arthur Robichaux. Other directors are Wesley Mueller and Ed Dozier.
Brookshire Drying Co. stockholders held their annual meeting after a Friday dinner at City Cafe in Brookshire. New directors elected were G. E. Longenbaugh, Cecil Beckendorf, and Chester Jordan to replace Albert Thompson, Dale Minze, and Sam Poorman. The board will include Ed Helwig and J. H. Longenbaugh. The company has 18 stockholders.
Pattison Brookshire Consolidated ISD trustees vote is set for April 4 1959 at Pattison and Brookshire schools polls open 8 am to 7 pm seven top vote getters to form new board all seven current trustees seek election filing ends March 5 with M F Dollar acting superintendent available at Pattison office for candidates.
Governor Price Daniel designates March 26 1959 as Public Schools Week in Texas and urges citizen participation. Katy Independent School District invites parents to visit classrooms laboratories and shops during the observance with a Friday assembly and lunch with students.
Pattison Brookshire marks Public Education Week from March 26 with open visits to Pattison School Brookshire Elementary School and the public invited to tour classes and observe students and teachers. The Student Council will register guests hourly and Homemaking girls will provide refreshments. A Friday program titled The Round-up debuts with free admission.
The Pattison PTA plans an evening program by the FFA and FHA on March 5 with the theme Educating for Citizenship. The Choral Group will sing and Open House follows in all rooms with refreshments served in the cafeteria. Social hosts listed.
Waltz Studios will be at the Katy Courts on Thursday February 26 from 12 00 noon to 5 30 p m to show proofs of the children's pictures recently taken for publication in The Times.
Johnny Clapp of Katy earns unanimous first team honors with 402 points in 26 games, a 17 point average, while Stanley McDonald of Katy earns second team with 264 points. First and second team lists include Wallace Stewart, Paul Bowker, Leonard Cruse, Jimmy Nasser, William Collard, and more across Missouri City Sugarland Hitchcock Easter Katy.
