Public To Sing With Violet Polk In Katy
Violet Polk president of the Gospel Singers of America will conduct an evening of gospel singing at the Apostolic Faith Church in Katy on Saturday night. Polk founded the group which runs a summer singing and leadership school in Pass Christian Mississippi with members from 37 states totaling over 10 000. He promotes Christ centered music and training church leaders across denominations. Rev Otto Busch urges all who enjoy religious singing to attend this event.

Katy High School Student Becomes National Merit Finalist
Jeana Ruland, daughter of Mr and Mrs Fred Ruland Jr, is a Katy High senior who earned a National Merit Certificate of Merit and advanced to finalist standing in the 1970 71 Merit Program. About 0.5 percent of high school seniors nationwide reach this stage. The 14 700 finalists in 1971 will compete for roughly 1 000 one time scholarships and about 2 000 renewable Merit Scholarships for up to four years at accredited colleges of the winner’s choice.

Funeral Rites Held For Edwin Norwood
Edwin Norwood of Brookshire died February 20 1971 in Waller County Hospital Hempstead after four months as patient. He born December 8 1901 was a WWI veteran retired farmer and cattleman. Services at Schmidt Chapel 2 pm Sunday with Rev George Olson. Survivors include wife Alice and four daughters eleven grandchildren one great grandchild three sisters and one brother. Pallbearers were family members. Burial in Pattison Methodist Cemetery.
