Public To Sing With Violet Polk In Katy

Violet Polk president of the Gospel Singers of America will conduct an evening of gospel singing at the Apostolic Faith Church in Katy on Saturday night. Polk founded the group which runs a summer singing and leadership school in Pass Christian Mississippi with members from 37 states totaling over 10 000. He promotes Christ centered music and training church leaders across denominations. Rev Otto Busch urges all who enjoy religious singing to attend this event.

Pattison Water System Bids Set for March 25 1971

Pattison Water Supply Corporation has completed its loan app with Farmer's Home Administration and proceeds to bid the water plant and distribution system. S A Russell Associates of Rosenberg are authorized to advertise bids with opening set for Thursday March 25 1971 at Royal Primary School. Construction depends on Health Department approval and future well drilling plans.

Pilot Fred England Receives Commercial License

Fred L. England of Brookshire earned his commercial pilot license after training begun in Colorado and completed at Hull Field in Sugar Land. He is married to Shirley Moyer of Katy and is the son of C. N. and Mrs. England. He works for J. V. Cardiff & Sons.

Katy High School Student Becomes National Merit Finalist

Jeana Ruland, daughter of Mr and Mrs Fred Ruland Jr, is a Katy High senior who earned a National Merit Certificate of Merit and advanced to finalist standing in the 1970 71 Merit Program. About 0.5 percent of high school seniors nationwide reach this stage. The 14 700 finalists in 1971 will compete for roughly 1 000 one time scholarships and about 2 000 renewable Merit Scholarships for up to four years at accredited colleges of the winner’s choice.

Funeral Rites Held For Edwin Norwood

Edwin Norwood of Brookshire died February 20 1971 in Waller County Hospital Hempstead after four months as patient. He born December 8 1901 was a WWI veteran retired farmer and cattleman. Services at Schmidt Chapel 2 pm Sunday with Rev George Olson. Survivors include wife Alice and four daughters eleven grandchildren one great grandchild three sisters and one brother. Pallbearers were family members. Burial in Pattison Methodist Cemetery.

Public School Week Observed March 1 5 in Katy district

The Katy Schools invite parents and citizens to visit during Public School Week March 1 5. Students will learn in normal classrooms as teachers showcase the learning process. Visitors may eat in cafeterias by prior arrangement and must register at each building to keep attendance records.

Katy Tigers Reach Regional Final After Bi-District Win

The Katy Tigerettes defeated Spring 49 to 42 to claim the Bi-District title and advance to the Regional Tournament at Blinn College. In the first round Katy crushed Teague with Jannett Isch scoring 22 points Telva Fusse and Patti Nowling also contributing as Katy moved to face Buna in the regional final.

Linda Blum Receives B.S. Degree in Home Economics

Linda Blum earned a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics Education from North Texas State University in December 1970. She plans to pursue textiles work and graduate courses, living with husband Andy Blum in Dallas. She is the daughter of Odell and Mrs. Finch of Brookshire and a 1966 Royal High School graduate. they married in July 1969.

Bostick Names Area Leaders For Clean Up
