Shriners Plan Crippled Children Benefit at Katy High School

The Brookshire Fulshear Katy Shrine Club schedules the eleventh annual Shrine Crippled Children program for Saturday March 10 at Katy High School auditorium. Funds raised support the Shrine Crippled Children’s Hospital in Houston. Local Shriner leaders and program volunteers urge public donations and participation.

Funeral Services Held Saturday For Edgar Hitt

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. in Houston for Edgar T. Hitt a retired Houston real estate broker who died of coronary thrombosis at his home. He had lived in Houston 36 years was active in civic affairs and Heights Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife Vera Scroggins Hitt a son Edgar Jr two siblings and his mother Mrs Lennie Hitt of Chattanooga.

Altar Society Bake Sale At Dan's Meat Market

Rummage sale organized by the Brookshire B and P W Club will be held next Saturday at Shearer's Feed Store beginning at 8 AM. The event features items termed white elephants from various owners and invites the public to browse and find useful treasures.

Mrs. Rapsilver Hosts B and P Club Meeting

Mrs. E Rapsilver entertained Brookshire B P Club members and one guest Mrs E Cartwright for the regular monthly meeting with red and white Valentine decorations. Twelve members plan to attend an International Relations dinner in Houston with the British consul as speaker on February 24. A host meeting is set for March 27 and a rummage sale is planned for February 25 at Shearer's Store. Florence Donigan authorized purchase of a 50 cup electric percolator for the club.

Over two hundred people visited Dan and Frank at their new Brookshire meat market last Friday and Saturday. Mr and Mrs Dan Frank expressed happiness with the reception and wishes from friends. Flowers and potted plants arrived and eight baskets of groceries were given away as planned.

W. F. Murray Injured In Auto Wreck

Mir and Mrs. W F Murray sustain injuries in a February 11 collision on Hempstead Highway. Mrs Murray suffers a fractured collar bone and neck vertebrae while Mr Murray has a broken rib and severe bruises. They are recovering at Heights Hospital and expect to go home soon.

The Brookshire Chamber of Commerce organized seven committees at a recent meeting led by President Harris Garrett. Development is chaired by Douglas Mayberry with members J C Day Sr and others. Advertising and Publicity by Elmo Brock with a team. Retail Activity to be chaired later. Survey and Research led by Willig Mikeska. Agricultural led by Richard Woods. Industrial Development under Howard Brookshire. Civic Affairs chaired by Louis McCauley with several aides. Committee chairmen may meet anytime to outline projects. officers and directors join them at 2 30 today for planning, with executive board meeting monthly and general meetings every three months.

Sam Houston Band to Perform in Katy Auditorium

The Sam Houston State College Band directed by Ed Boyd will give a concert at Katy High School Auditorium on March 16 at 8 p.m. as the climax of its spring tour visiting Texas City Dickinson Alvin Angleton Victoria Refugio and Wharton. Members will perform for the Rotary Club before the concert and advance tickets go on sale this week.

Brookshire Lions Host Scout Evening with Awards

The Brookshire Lions Club hosted the Brookshire Boy Scouts guests for a Tuesday meeting. Scouts received one year service stars and attendance awards while senior and junior patrol leaders earned insignias. The charter renewal and four district council troop awards were presented by Lions sponsors. Judge G G Roane spoke as Ed Dottier Sr led the program and a fried chicken dinner was provided by the Brookshire PTA.

Masons Remodel Hall in Brookshire

Brookshire Masonic Lodge No 1066 moves on converting the former Farmers State Bank building this week. Partitions and teller cages are removed and eight kitchenettes added to form a banquet hall on the lower floor. A rest room is added upstairs and improvements will aid Brookshire Boy Scouts who meet in the lodge hall.

Grady Hills Escape Serious Injury in Wreck

Grady Hills and his infant daughter escaped serious harm after a Sunday afternoon collision in Rosenberg. Mrs. Grady Hill, formerly Shirley Goynes, reported the other car pulled from a side street into their path on a main thoroughfare. Mrs. Hill suffered a forehead cut. Grady and the baby were unharmed. Vehicle damage was about 250 dollars as the Hills visit Shirley’s parents, the Goynes and the C. B. families.
