Eligible residents may file sworn applications with the City Secretary to run for mayor or commissioner or other city offices. Applications must name the office sought and prove eligibility under Texas law. Filing deadline is 30 days before election day, with elections set for April 3 in Katy and Brookshire.
Voters rejected a 570000 bond issue for remodeling and expanding the Fort Bend County Courthouse. Unofficial Katy returns show 8 against and 1 for the bonds. Election judge Wm D. Avera with assistants Raymond Wollins and Mrs. Frank Williams reported Katy had about 51 qualified voters.
Mrs. Sam Garrett, chairwoman of the Pattison Polio Fund Drive, announced a final collection of $199.70. School groups contributed $141.67 with Pattison School $72.36, Clemons PTA $63.05, and Post Oak School $6.20, plus donations from U D C W M S H D C and individuals. praise went to W C Norris, Pattison schools superintendent.
Special Lenten services take place at Memorial Lutheran Church in Katy each Wednesday at 7 30 p m and at Christ Lutheran Church in Pattison each Thursday at 7 30 p m for worshipers.
Rheman Motor Co in Brookshire handles the sale of 1951 auto licenses with office hours 9 to 12 and 1 to 5 daily. Tax collector Tra Tompkins says a certificate of title must be presented to buy a license, and a $30 fee applies to avoid delay. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Russell vacationed in Houston with the H E Spencers. Mr. and Mrs. B D Carr and Bill Conroe joined them there.
The Katy Chapter of the National Honor Society will be officially recognized at a Friday morning school assembly. Charter members will be initiated by representatives of the Pasadena Chapter. The society aims to promote scholarship service leadership and character at Katy High School with membership capped at ten percent of juniors and twenty percent of seniors. Public invited to attend this initiation ceremony.
The piano recital by Sara Margaret Hopkins student of Mrs. F A Ebel is postponed because of Sara's illness with a new date to be announced.
The community church hosts a week long series led by visiting preacher Rev Hawthorne from Bay City and youth worker Rev Moore from Bryan. Daily services at 9:45 a.m. and 7:45 p.m. include 6:45 p.m. children and youth sessions. Special groups meet each day and visitors are invited regardless of faith or creed.
The Katy area Shriners announce a Cripple Children’s Entertainment and Ball at Katy Auditorium Saturday night starting at 8. Local talent from the High School Sextet Alice Townsend School of Dancing and other groups will perform. Proceeds benefit Arabia Temple Cripple Children Hospital and tickets are available via paper ads.
Charles F. Brookshire 66 died February 19 at Beaumont Hospital after a two month illness. Funeral services were held February 20 in Beaumont with interment there. He was born in Brookshire and lived in Beaumont six years before retirement. Survivors include his wife Sally, son Noble Brookshire Austin, daughter Mrs Earl Marie Rabe Port Arthur, mother Mrs Maria Brookshire, sister Mrs Maud Blankenship, brothers A K Brookshire and Ernie Brookshire, all of Brookshire, and six grandchildren.
L. B. Tarkington drives from Brenham each evening to visit uncles Stroud and Brown. Stroud has been ill, Brown suffered a broken arm in the freeze. Stroud is Brown's brother-in-law.
Katy captured top honors at a Saturday volleyball tournament in Katy gym with a 2 0 win over Hempstead and final 15-4 15-12 victory over Waller. Cypress-Fairbanks took consolation. Waller took second. teams included Cypress Fairbanks Needville Tomball Spring Branch Katy B Katy A.
The Katy Odd Fellow Lodge No. 756 schedules a meeting for Tuesday February 27 at 8 oclock.
