Wilpitz Becomes Army Air Forces Flight Officer

Ernest A Wilpitz of Brookshire Texas was commissioned as a flight officer in the Army Air Forces on February 22 after completing bombardier training at Carlsbad New Mexico. He trained in dead reckoning navigation and bombardiering and is awaiting active duty with undisclosed destination. A Katy High School graduate and former Baylor University student, he is the son of Mr and Mrs Ernest Wilpitz.

Birthday Party for Tommy Rheman Turns Ten

Tommy Rheman was honored on his tenth birthday February 20 with a party. About twenty friends attended. Guests played games and enjoyed soda water cake and ribbon sandwiches.

Shower for Mrs Leonard Phillips at Pattison school gym

A miscellaneous shower for Mrs Leonard Phillips formerly Miss Mattie Bell Taylor will be held at 8 oclock Friday night February 23 in the Pattison school gymnasium. Sponsored by the Methodist Ladies Missionary Society invites extended to all friends through the press.

J H Day Stricken in Hempstead Two Strokes Reported

J H Day tax assessor collector of Waller County was stricken last week with two strokes and his condition was serious. Messages went to family members out of town as doctors reported the severity. A late report said he was better.

New Selective Service Board Assumes Duties

The new Waller County Selective Service board checked in and assumed duties last Thursday. Members include J. T. Shindler as chairman, John P. Healy of Waller, and C. J. Rheman Jr. of Brookshire replacing the old board.

Muery Rites Held for Sealy Oil Mill Aide at Sealy

Alvin C. Muery 40, assistant manager and secretary of the Sealy Oil Mill and Manufacturing Co., died in a Temple hospital. Funeral at Preibisch in Sealy followed by burial in Oak Knoll, Bellville. Surviving are his widow Dorothea, daughter Virginia Lee, father Charles, brothers Hugo and George, sisters Mrs. Loas, Mrs. King, and Mrs. Baker.

Roy Ross of Sealy writes to his sister Mrs H E Schulte that he has just returned from France on a transport ship. He was aboard the Lexington which was sunk in the Coral Sea.

Soldiers Get Trip To States On Hospital Ship

A West Coast port in England sees soldiers boarding the Larkspur hospital ship for return to the United States. Corporal August W. Maler of Brookshire Texas is among the wounded care team aboard. The ship features 72 degree climate control dumb waiters elevators and on board bakery laundry and ice cream facilities including a mechanical cow for patient comfort.

Teachers Entertain Mothers at Brookshire School Tea

Brookshire school hosts a mothers tea on Friday afternoon with nosegays for each guest. Each room displays student work especially art. Mrs J D Woods served tea along with finger sandwiches and pinwheel cookies. Hostesses were Mesdames W D Baines August Trettin C O Chandler and G A Morrison.
