Sunday afternoon about 3 o clock a blaze consumed the cotton warehouse and about 160 bales of cotton at the Rhenan Gin Co s gin on the west outskirts of town. Firemen aided in saving two nearby buildings. Owner George Rheman estimated the loss at 17 000 with partial insurance coverage.
Mrs. Ora Hand of Hempstead was informed by the War Department that her son Lieutenant Robert Lee Hand has been missing since January 5 while on active duty in the South Pacific as a bombardier. He previously worked at Hempstead post office and has a brother Arvard also in service. The writer extends sympathy to the Hand family and hopes for his safe return.
The Shrine hosts an annual Cripple Children's ball at the Sam Houston Coliseum in Houston on February 22. Proceeds from ticket sales aid needy children in obtaining medical care and treatment.
The Nith District Court will convene in this county on March 15. Twelve individuals were drawn to serve as grand jurors: C. W. Barnum J. B Sorsby Fritz Heise W. D Weaver T. W. Garrett Claud Cliett L. E. Hawkins B. Walthall C. Gra Ben Burch G H. Laas Jesse Wilson A. C. Blumberg J. E. Mikeska A. J. Peters and R. C. Brown.
Civilian and service member sugar and gasoline ration books are missing and should be turned in within five days. Grocers must inspect books before selling sugar and report suspicious ones to the ration office for investigation, as many books remain unreturned and a potential check on service members may occur.
Mrs J D Cooper visited Houston Monday. Ford McCauley Camp Swift and wife spent Sunday here. Arch ie Wilson, Frank Gostecnik and many others visited Hempstead or Houston. Judge J J Perry gravely ill in Hempstead hospital. Mrs John Clarrison returned from New York. Weather cold with northern travel sent stow rejected.
The War Price and Rationing Board of Waller County on February 10 1943 issued certificates for grade 1 and grade 2 tires. Passengers include Charles H Urban Pauline R Brown E E Rapsilver and H Seidel with one grade 1 or grade 2 tire each. Truck tires granted to W C Smith Thomas G Schmidt Lonnie Kruger Eddie Graderson Manuel Coleman G H Laas John P Healy with one or two tires per person.
The Internal Revenue Department advises all single persons with gross income of 500 or more and all married persons living with a spouse and with combined gross income of 1210 or more to file a return by March 15. Ensure accuracy to save money.

Judge E A Cooper was taken to the hospital Wednesday after a heart attack and returned home Saturday evening. He is much improved and will take a rest cure before resuming duties.
Mra J E Cabaniss of Katy subscribed for The Climes. Alter Wirpitz, a Baylor University student in Waco, visited his parents Mr and Mrs BE W Wilpitz last weekend. Rev James Wilson returned from an extended visit to his daughter and son in law Claud Dewees at Three Sisters southwest Texas and reports successful fishing while there.
