The Brookshire B and P W Club designates March 1 as Buy A Brick Week for the Brookshire Fire Station under construction. Citizens are urged to purchase bricks at $1 each to support volunteer firemen and protect property with an inscription I Bought A Brick.
Mrs Kathleen Wilson adds a teen agers room at Toots Bakery in Katy converting the former Lillies Sewing Shop into a coral painted space with booths a Coca Cola machine and a nickel record player It opens by Monday February 21 and will stay open nights until 1030 pm She also adds breakfast service starting at 530 am and asks readers to suggest a name for the new area with a prize for the chosen entry
Pattison Chapter of the Future Farmers of America received 12 acres of land donated by Mr. G. L. Buller for five years. Located beside Pattison Park, the field day will showcase new equipment on Saturday February with Lawrence Ehlert and Ed Dozier of Dozier Equipment Co. assisting.
Patrolman Chester Arr reports a weekend accident when Bobby Dean Birmingham of San Antonio failed to signal and struck a pickup turning left. One tire deflated and the car overturned once. The Houstonian faced trial in Hempstead with a $60 fine and 80 days jail, while D W L charges were filed against a man from-tonia and another from Houston.
J Desmond Woods a sixteen year old Katy Scout will receive the Eagle Award at a Court of Honor tonight in the Visual Aids Rooms Katy High School. Other honorees include Nathan Myers Paul Short Billy Watts Lloyd Minze and more for 2nd class and Star badges. Woods began scouting at age nine with Pack 209 and later joined Troop 370 and Katy Kr 209 earning thirty merit badges including a Sharp Shooter medal. He attended Camp Strake and earned Order of the Arrow initiation, with extensive travel to the 1953 International Boy Scout Jamboree in California.
Katy F F A members sold ads for the fat stock show catalogue. Top seller Alton Sturm of Brookshire collected 432.00, earning an FF A jacket and ring with George Miller and Albert Thompson tied for second. Jackets go to other winners at the March 12 Father and Son Banquet, with thanks to local advertisers.
Katy Junior High and High School announces nine Scholastic Art Award winners across seventh eighth and high school levels. Winners include Violet Orsak Marilyn Miller Sherry Hill Ann Hart Ray Brown Betty Grisham Madelyn Freeman Julius Gibbs and Roy Lee Mikeska with top placements in fabric print sculpture and opaque watercolor. An exhibit of the winners is on the 6th floor Foley's Town Hall and runs through February 28 inviting the public to view junior high and high school artwork from Southeast Texas Schools.
Dozier Farm Equipment Co manager Edward Dozier says about 750 people attended the John Day barbecue and show in Brookshire on Monday evening. He notes everyone had a good time and attendance was high. The following Tuesday evening the affair moved to Bob Burton School in Sunnyridge for another program.
Mardi Gras in Houston on Tuesday evening features Stars of screen and Peggy crowned Hollywood Queen. After the show, dancers will enjoy Charlie Spivak's orchestra. Reserved tickets cost 1.00 2.00 or 3.00. Reservations: Brookshire 86 W or 74 W Katy. Show starts 8 15 pm.
Brookshire firefighters offer barbecue plates for one dollar each to support the building program. Tickets available from Brookshire firemen, with proceeds aiding the new fire station project.
Mrs. Nora Mills returns home after a Houston visit with sisters. Jack and Jill Nursery School hosts a Valentine party on Monday. Mrs. Charles Smith and her brother Ben Neill of Waco visit the Joe Smith family over the weekend.
