Entertainers scheduled for Katy crippled children ball program

The sixth annual crippled children’s ball occurs in Katy on Saturday February 24 at 8 o’clock in the Katy School Auditorium. The String Trio Claude Schwartz Dale Minze and A D Westmoreland will perform. Katy High School Sextet directed by Mrs Wiley will play. Alice Townsend School of Dancing Katy offers student dances. Houston entertainers under Mrs Frantz direction close the program. Lambert Moebes and his Star Lites provide music for the audience and the 9 30 dance.

Little Barbara Lanell Burnette nine died in a Houston hospital at 8 30 p m February 9 due to complications after diphtheria She is survived by her parents two sisters a brother and two grandparents The girl moved to Katy at the start of the second semester and was duchess of the fourth grade for the Valentine Vanities She belonged to Cypress Trinity Tabernacle Services were held February 10 at Cypress Trinity Church with interment in Cameron Texas

Methodist Stewards Meet In Brookshire

The Board of Stewards of the Methodist Church of Brookshire met last Monday night at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Geo A Rheman Sr. After the business session refreshments were served by Mrs. Rheman. The March meeting will be at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Muske.

Club hosts bulbs lesson at Franz home meeting

The Barker Addicks Home Demonstration Club meets at Mrs. C C Franz on Monday February 19 from 10 to 2. After the business session Mrs James Gleason demonstrates bulb culture covering selection soil preparation planting care and storage with a Amaryllis planting demo and a planting guide from Mrs Burnside. Lunch will be served by Mrs Franz and J B Casey with a red white and blue table decor.

Brookshire Cleaners Burglarized In Overnight Break-In

The Brookshire Cleaners was burglarized Tuesday night with about sixteen garments, mainly suits, stolen. The break-in occurred before one o clock, when night watchman Walter Martin found the door ajar. The shop has recently been taken over by Conrad Neelley.

Katy Volleyball Tournament Set for Saturday at Katy Gym

The Katy Gym hosts a Saturday volleyball tournament on February 17 with a 9 am Hempstead vs Sealy opening, 10 am Katy vs Cypress Fairbanks, 11 am Waller vs Spring Branch, and 12 pm Tomball vs Needville. First Katy school principal Lena Wilkinson 71 dies

Mrs Lena Alice Wilkinson 71 in Houston area dies at home 310 West 18th St after moving from Katy 25 years ago. Former Andover Ohio resident and Miss Lena Russell, she began Katy’s first school as principal and taught before and after marriage to Pres Wilkinson in 1908. Burial Magnolia Cemetery Katy. Methodists Plan Week of Dedication in Brookshire

The Brookshire Methodist Church hosts a Week of Dedication from February 18 to 25 with nightly 7:30 p.m. services led by visiting preachers from Houston West District. Speakers include Rev. T. M. Price Rev. Grady Hallonquist Dr. Stewart Clendenin and Rev. Weldon Morton. The week emphasizes rededication and world projects including a Korea refugee relief fund first 100000 offerings. Valentine Varieties Queen and King Crown Katy Event

Katy High School Auditorium overflowed as Zoellen Bartlett and Stanley Pace were named queen and king of the Valentine Varieties. Royal outfits featured white nylon net gowns, silver sequins, rhinestone crowns, and pink gladioli. The court wore white dresses with pink chrysanthemum muffs. the program included Rhythm Band, folk dances, choirs, chalk talk, tap dance, and solos with Master of Ceremonies P. C. Aldrich.

Women to Organize VFW Post Auxiliary in Katy

Sixteen women signed a petition for a charter creating a Woman's Auxiliary to VFW Post No. 9182 in Katy. Eligible members are female relatives of veterans or veterans themselves, over sixteen. Charter members may join within 90 days for a $3 fee covering national dues and local dues.

Former Brookshire Citizen Dies at 65

J. C. Smith age 65 died Jan 28 at his home 217 W Hopkins San Marcos Texas after four years five months illness. Former Brookshire School superintendent and later County Superintendent taught 42 years and inspired students toward education. Survived by wife Myrtle Anderson Smith three daughters four sons two sisters eight grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Pvt Harvey L Johnson of Fort Sam Houston Texas spent the weekend with Mr and Mrs C R Johnson in Houston. He and Miss Wornall Chetham Strode of Houston joined Sunday dinner with Mr and Mrs Buck Freeman and Mr and Mrs Harold Johnson. He shared tales of army life during the gathering.
