In College Station Texas on February 7 George Ek Adams assistant State agent announces continued statewide agricultural program planning. The project, paused after a Supreme Court decision, aims to begin by February 17 with district meetings and county agent coordination.
Miss Jimmie Rene Ogg and Miss Mildred Clark of Hempstead visited here on Tuesday for business. Mrs. Ida Neeley and H. M. Neeley of Houston spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. H. Seidel.
Four members of the Waller County Agricultural Council and other partners met January 22 in the County Agent’s office to back an Extension Service plan for 1936. The program emphasizes Live At Home on every farm, soil conservation, better livestock, poultry, fruit and pecan improvement, and farm demonstrations led by 4-H and County Agent staff, with fairs and farm tours to spread adoption.
President Roosevelt signed a deficiency appropriation bill providing 296,185,000 to pay farmers under AAA contracts until the law was invalidated by the Supreme Court. Farm officials said benefit checks would restart, with funds also earmarked for Social Security grants and more than 12,000,000 to establish machinery for bonus payments.
The plan centers on producing food for the family and livestock first, with the rest of the farm system arranged around this goal. The Live at Home demonstration suggests practical targets such as two meat hogs, a flock of 50 hens, one beef animal, and four milk cows, with optional additional stock.
