Brookshire Chamber of Commerce deliberated on continuing the organization after criticism of low attendance and dues. President Ed Griffin and Secretary Mrs. Whitt Bains led the session, noting donations for basketball trophies but few workers, and a plan to recruit new members for 1969, with Mary Margaret Henry volunteering.

Five Candidates Seek Katy School Board Seats

Five candidates announced for Katy School Board positions No. 3 4 and 5 as of noon Tuesday. Incumbent Harry W. Brown seeks re election for No. 4 while Glen Fry and Melvin L. Scott do not seek re election for No. 3 and No. 5 respectively. Candidates for No. 3 are Carl E. Allen L. J. Hol Moffett and Oscar M. Fraley. Absentee voting runs March 10 to April 1 with office hours 8 am to 4 pm in the Administration Building.

Pancake Supper Draws 200 At VFW Community Hall

The 1969 VFW Post 9182 Pancake Supper served over 200 attendees with advance tickets and donations pushing revenue above 600 dollars. Organ music accompanied a program by Elnora Hudgens, Danny Bellamy, and Dee Kaechele, with organs provided by Holcombe Lindquist of Houston. Proceeds fund extra tables and chairs for the post.

The Red Masked Players of Katy High School stage three teen themed one act plays on February 13 and 16 at 7:30 PM in the Katy High School Auditorium. Presale tickets cost 60 cents for students and 75 cents for adults, with door prices 76 cents and $1.00. About 60 youths take part in acting, stage work, advertising and ticket sales, led by sponsor Elwood Williamson.

A Katy Little League Mothers fundraiser hosts a barbecued chicken dinner Sunday February 16 1969 from 118 to 200 pm at Katy VEW Center. Tax Office Extends Hours For Experimental Weekdays

The Waller County Tax Office adopts new hours from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. with a noon break, Monday through Friday, starting February 24 1969. On Mondays the office will stay open until 6 p.m. Le Roy Symm says the extension aims to give more residents access to the office.

Soil Samples Collected in Waller County Campaign

Leon Bienski and Vance Hare oversee 31 soil samples from Brookshire Katy area farms while over 136 samples were gathered in Waller County by school youth. Burl Richardson notes samples go to the Texas A&M soils lab. A February barbecue honors youth for soil sampling with trophies for top collectors.
