The Carrie Mitchell house north of the railroad tracks in Brookshire burned on Thursday. It was rented by the C. L. Claborne family and no one was home. Firemen reported they were called too late to extinguish the blaze, with high north wind at 30 mph contributing. The cause was not known.

Hypo Truck Driver in Critical Condition After Houston Fire
Manuel Martinez and his wife Maria rushed into a blazing Fox Street home in Houston to save children. Their 18 month old son Rogelio died in the fire. Martinez, a substitute driver for the Hype Mail Truck route through Katy and Brookshire, remains in a coma with severe burns and possible vision loss.
