Lockers Operable at Brazos Valley Refrigeration Plant

Storage lockers at the Brazos Valley Refrigeration Plant near Brookshire are functioning with emergency motors after a recent fire. Meat can be retrieved from lockers, but slaughtering and processing are halted until the plant’s damaged departments are rebuilt.

Katy FFA Rodeo Plans For March 18 19

The Katy FFA Fat Stock Show and Rodeo committee met to finalize the 1949 rodeo. Frank Harris of West Columbia will stage the event using RCA rules. A report from the Quarter Horse show committee and the Breeding Cattle Committee is expected soon.

Death of Hull-Cassetta star Paul O Quinn Jr Shocks Community

Funeral attendance was held for John Paul O Quinn Jr 16 a star athlete at Hull Cassetta High School and key part of the district basketball team. An only child he won the 1948 tennis district title and played on the football squad while excelling as an A student.

Katy Band to Present Concert

The fifty piece Katy high school band under Edward EB Boyd will perform a mid winter concert in the old gymnasium Friday February 18 at eight oclock. The program includes marches overtures a trio a quartet and descriptive music. Admission is free and all are invited.

Brookshire PTA Discusses World Peace Study

The Brookshire PTA met on Wednesday February 2 at 2 30 pm in the auditorium with 21 members present. Mrs Bains room won the attendance award and Mrs Whitley received the door prize. The next study meeting will be February 16 at 3 00 pm at Mrs Ray Woods home on The Truth About Report Cards led by Mrs O H Edwards.

Katy Rotary Ladies Night at Katy High School Cafeteria

The Katy Rotary Club hosted its annual Ladies Night last Monday at the Katy High School cafeteria. Guest performers included Alston Townley, University of Houston music teacher, singing classic songs. Sixty attendees enjoyed a fish dinner prepared by Ft. Bend Steak House. Ray Woods serves as club president.

Paralysis Drive Nets $273 in Brookshire

The Infantile Paralysis Drive in Brookshire netted $273.68. Thanks are given to every contributor and to workers Mr. Tommie Cox Mr. H A Reaves Miss Juanita Feik Miss Mary Claire Morrow and district teachers. Mrs W D Bains is local chairman.

Pattison Public Meeting on Telephone Service

A Pattison high school meeting is planned for Tuesday February 15 at 7:30 PM to discuss improving telephone service in the area. Residents with or without telephones are urged to attend and company representatives are invited to seek arrangements. Mrs Louise H Higgins 57 of 5280 Center died Saturday in a Houston hospital. Funeral services were held Tuesday at Addicks Methodist Church with burial in Addicks Cemetery.

Harris Garrett of A and M College spent the weekend with relatives and friends. Mrs Dave Agopian and her sister Mrs BE Hriart attended re burial services Wednesday for their nephew Pvt Billie Brown killed in action in May 1945 in Okinawa. Services were held in Natadish Louisiana.

Judge J D Harvey Dies at 75 Former High Court Member

Judge J D Harvey 75 longtime member of the Supreme Court Commission of Appeals died in Austin after a long illness He previously served as county judge of Waller County and was named judge of the Eighth Judicial District in 1915 He served 18 years on the commission of appeals resigning in 1943 Survivors include his wife two sisters and burial set for Tuesday at 10 30 am in the State Cemetery

Shrine Crippled Children's Ball Planned at Katy Elementary

The fourth annual Shrine Crippled Children's Ball sponsored by Shriners from Brookshire, Fulshear, and Katy is set for Saturday at 3 p.m. in the Katy Elementary gym. A Robert Shelton School of Dancing show, magician Doc Morris, ventriloquist Leroy, and the Houstonian orchestra will entertain. Tickets cost $1 and proceeds fund the Crippled Children's hospital in Houston.

Rev and Mrs G Z Sadler entertained the Brookshire Methodist Church Young Adult Sunday School Class with a yeast chicken and dressing dinner on Thursday night. Twenty four guests enjoyed buffet style dining in the living room with hospitality and fellowship.
