A 1927 quiz series asks seven questions weekly about common things and their workings. Topics span stars earth life electricity radio history geography economics law health manners and animals with a mix of curious prompts and headings.
Readers are urged to answer during a neat week and collect the fundamentals of a liberal education. A scrap book is advised for future reference and study.
The engine uses an air compressor, a tank, and a control valve. Each car has a smaller tank a triple valve and a horizontal brake cylinder with two pistons joined by a spiral spring. A 70 to 80 lb pressure in the train pipe keeps brakes off. Continued on page three.
Pattison church will be papered and repaired with funds raised by Mrs Nellie Cliett's class. The general church fund supports home and foreign missions and about a dozen other causes. The goal for the two churches is 455 dollars. Congregants are urged to attend preaching at Brookshire and boost Sunday school attendance.
N G Pier and wife travelled through town en route to Ray City after visiting relatives in Bellville for the funeral of Dr Tom Pier of Brownwood who died in a New Orleans sanitarium. Mrs J W Avery sent The Times to her son Robert at A M College in Bryan, and Bob hopes to keep up with the Brookshire girls. Mrs Ly C Adams of Route 1 is ill this week and progress hoped. Leon Harrison of Houston visited with his parents Mr and Mrs Geo Harrison last Sunday and Monday. Miss Francis Hammerling was in Dallas shopping for spring millinery. Mrs Si Garrett and grandson Arthur Garrett of Pine Island staying with Mrs Minnie McGaughey. Miss Mary Mikeska of Placebo extended her Times subscription for another year.
Jack Means and wife hosted a big dance Saturday night in Waller with many attendees from the area. Numerous residents were noted in attendance and reports say a splendid time was had by all. Farmers anticipate continued warm weather will boost planting of corn and replacement crops.
Edna resident Misa Angelina Vessely spent several days with relatives along Brookshire Route 1. Lovie Vesselys drove to Sealy to attend church and visit Frank Vesely and family. Jobo and Dick Clapp stayed with T G Clapp and wife. Estin Denny of Katy visited relatives and returned with Marguerite Adams. B Greer and family joined Tip Williams and family for Sunday.
