The Katy Independent School District received an excellent rating from the Texas Education Agency Accreditation Division based on inspections on November 30 and December 1 1960. A Brookshire drug store opens a snack bar and fountain service for the first time in its history. Miss Jimmie Dell Tubbs now offers fountain drinks coffee homemade cake and sandwiches alongside existing merchandise. The store, originally built in 1893 by Nesbitt and Quinn and moved to Front Street, has changed hands from Mrs. McGaughey to Miss Bobbie Edmondson in 1937 and later relocated twice.

Tomboy Breaks Attendance Records at Wayside Theatre
The Tomboy and the Champ at Wayside Theatre in Brookshire drew 1228 attendees over four showings this past weekend. Wayside manager A O Muske notes only a 1200 crowd once before in 14 years, with some patrons returning for both nights as the house ran full for the first two shows and about two thirds full for the last.

John Avery Home Fire Extinguished in Brookshire
A Friday fire at John Avery's Brookshire home was put out quickly by the owner using a garden hose after fireworks sparked a roof blaze. The roof suffered a 2 foot square hole but interior damage was avoided, and firemen confirmed the attic was clear and no ceiling damage occurred. A separate grass fire south of Brookshire was contained Saturday with no damage reported.
