The United War Chest of Texas National War Fund lists Waller County officers L Hawkins chairman H A Doble Special gifts chairman Ray D Jones Publicity chairman A F Foster Treasurer. Their work supports troops and allies through National War Fund agencies. Community cooperation is appreciated.
Mr and Mrs Monroe Morton were honored Friday night at the home of the bride's parents with a miscellaneous shower arranged by Miss Constance Cooper. Valentine decorations featured red flowers and heart motifs as guests signed a guest book and gifts were displayed on the dining table.
The Katy High School Band directed by T. J. Heinemeier held a Monday 8 p.m. concert for the Gonzales Warm Spring Foundation for Polio Victims. About $170 was collected as a free will offering, with reminder that contributions are welcome from those who could not attend.
Max Wander has collected more than 300 dollars for the McCloskey Cheer Fund. He plans to send the funds to the Chronicle on Friday.
A wartime letter from Lomax Mikesa to Rev Sadler dated January 15 1945. He writes from an English base about church life abroad expresses faith in God aiding against flak, recalls home sermons, and asks for prayers for him and his parents. He mentions Pattison church and references Psalms 118 and John 10 28.
A total of 247 dollars was collected from residents here and forwarded to the Chronicle by Rev. J. K. Seber. The accompanying message expressed heartfelt sympathy and appreciation to the soldiers, hoping the contribution would spread sunshine joy and happiness and asking God to bless and inspire the boys.
Mrs. C H Doons of Houston visited Mr and Mrs Perry Robertson last weekend. Seaman Charles Dozier and his mother spent Sunday with Mrs C E Boughton in Simonton. Miss La Verne and Gleister Kitzman of Houston spent the weekend with their father Henry Kitzmiller. Mrs Feagan and Mrs Ernst Wirpitz were in Sealy on business. Cpl Henry Keuneke returned to Camp Hood. Mrs Adel Keuneke and relatives in Goose Creek Sunny. Willie Mikeska and A C Newman went to Tomball. Helen Marie Barniske will visit Brenham. Mrs C J Rheman Jr has her mother as guest. Miss Gladys Rheman spent Sunday in Houston. Mrs H E Martin spent in Austin with Alice Martin who broke an arm. Max Wander received a large shipment of ladies ration free slippers. Mrs Rose B Ernstes and others from Katy and Houston attended Fat Stock Show and Rodeo. Jo Hilliard spent weekend in Kilgore. Mae Alexander attended the Rodeo. Little Kay Etherly is off the sick list. Mrs J H Kinsey and Mrs J P Carroll hosted three tables of 42. W B Burgess Lefty Reeves J H Kinsey and J E Clayton at the President’s Birthday Ball in Bellville then enjoyed bacon and eggs with friends. Frank Sawyer and Geo Lang were in Bellville for R B A meeting. Publisher and mother Mrs Rose B Einates visited Sealy News office. cordial welcome from Mr F D Hicks and staff. Mrs W D Cooper dined with sister Mrs Andy Martin in Houston.
E H Martin has remodeled the interior and rearranged the sales displays to a serve yourself style. A new vegetable counter has been added.
At the Bryan home Sunday afternoon Miss Malvonee Bryan wed Staff Sergeant Kenneth Hall. Rev James L Atkins officiated with a small family reception held afterward. Out of town guests included Mr and Mrs John Hall of Luling and Mrs J D Woods of Brookshire. Sgt Hall returns from twenty months in the European theater with the 86th division.
Mrs J D Cooper spent the weekend in Houston with her son James D Cooper and daughter Lucille Beyise. Charles Dozier apprentice seaman left for San Diego after entering the Navy last year. His brother Tig Dozier a shipfitter 1/c is in Washington DC. Their mother Mrs Odie Moorehead praises the Navy and the boys. Constance Cooper Alice Harrison Bessie Martin Lucilee Beyler returned to school duties Monday.
The Waller County War Price and Rationing Board states applications for gasoline may not be approved by members outside board meetings, except emergency specials. The Gasoline Panel meets at 9:30 and 10:10 AM on 10/80 or later if needed. Public urged to submit applications Saturday.
The city drug store has installed a spacious refrigerator to keep vaccines fresh. A display case shows the kinds of vaccine in stock and emphasizes readiness to meet vaccine needs with the slogan Let us Solve Your Vaccine Needs.
