J W Bush county agent visited Hempstead to distribute government checks among cotton farmers who cooperated last summer by retiring part of their crop and accepting the option payment plan. Total option money paid in the county reached 22480 dollars to 136 farmers, with fewer than 30 more expected.
George Conley, a Cooper hotel guest, woke Sunday night to smoke filling his room. Blinded by smoke he could not exit, and pounded on the door to rouse fellow guest Damme. A mattress and blankets burned before firefighters put out the blaze shortly before midnight.

The 1934 Chevrolet debuts with over 100 improvements praised by Jimmie Day and Jack Freitag of D.F. Chevrolet Co. in Brookshire. Features include knee action wheels, a 80 horsepower Blue Streak engine, longer wheelbase, enhanced seating, independent front suspension, and a race-type engine with redesigned valve angles for improved speed, quietness, and ride.
A college junior notes that the area of the last gas burn controls mixture temperature and overall mix conditions. The design enhances volumetric efficiency and is largely responsible for the high horsepower rating.

County agent Bush reports 324 cotton acreage reduction contracts signed in Waller County through Tuesday night totaling about 6 400 acres. The county quota of 5 700 acres has been exceeded by nearly 1 000 acres and Bush expects at least 7 000 acres by week end. Farmers show strong cooperation with the program.
Roger Adamson of Hempstead earned high honors at Sam Houston College with five A grades. He stood among the top eight performers as President Estill awarded congratulatory letters to twenty five students for making the honor roll.
