Katy and Royal school communities celebrate sport events that boost entertainment education and morale while stressing strict sportsmanship. Officials warn hosts and guests to avoid insults and harassment, noting penalties for misbehavior reflect on the entire school.
Olin E. Teague announces his bid for re election in Texas Sixth Congressional District. He has served since 1946 after being wounded in World War I. Teague cites 28 years of service and chairmanships as basis for continued work in telegraphs of science and spaceflight, with key roles on the Science and Astronautics Committee.
The Distries 25-AA executive committee in Katy placed Klein and Waller on probation for the remainder of the 1969-70 season and the 1970-71 season after an on court altercation following a January 27 game. Klein cited for player misconduct. Waller for fan disorderly conduct. Proceeding will move to the University Interscholastic League.
Yvonne Bolin takes over the Longhorn Emporium in Fayly Texas, previously run by Mrs Travis Bolin also formerly operated Tulip and The Chicken Antiques in Corpus Christi. The shop opens Friday and will be open daily except Mondays from 9:00 to 5:00.
The City of Katy Board accepted Milley Motor Company bid of 3188.71 for a Chevrolet police car while Katy Auto offered 8301.19 for a Ford. Ward A and Ward B elections set for April 4 with candidates listed and inspectors named. City to insure fire department vehicles up to 50 miles outside and 1941 fire truck to be overhauled. Saturday office closures begin February 14. Salary raises approved for officers and city staff including clerks and secretary.
Katy Mothers plan a chicken barbecue at the VFW Community Center on Sunday February 16 1970. Serving runs 11 am to 2 pm. Plates cost 1.76 dollars for adults and 1.26 dollars for children. Proceeds aid the Little League athletic program. Tickets go on sale soon.
The Katy Rotary Club announces its annual Pancake Supper at the VFW Community Center on Thursday February 12. Tickets cost 1.25 for adults and 75 cents for children under 12. The all you can eat meal includes pancakes sausage syrup butter and coffee or milk. Serving runs from 4:30 to 7:30 PM.
The 20th Annual Girl Scout Cookie Sale begins Tuesday February 10 at 4 p.m. Four varieties will be sold with proceeds funding camps and equipment. Cookies remain 50 cents per box and six dollars per carton of 12, with cartons available for mailing to service members or students.
The First Baptist Church of Katy hosts a three day Stewardship Revival beginning Friday February 6 with 7:30 p.m. services and Sunday at regular time. Rev Grady Welch of Alexandria LA director of Stewardship of the Louisiana Convention delivers the messages and W A Steed leads the music.
The Times notes an ordinance for Brookshire Texas announcing receipt of a petition for annexation of adjacent territory and a public hearing. The issue also contains a notice the city will accept sealed proposals for bids on a special police car.
Heavy machinery moves to the Bostick place for a second oil and gas well while another well begins drilling on the Burford place off Wilpitt Road on the E. H. Martin private road. Drilling began in 1960.
Lent services begin February 11 with 7:00 pm at Christ Lutheran Pattison and 8:00 pm at Katy Memorial Lutheran. Each Wednesday through Lent features the series The Redeemed with film strip and gospel songs. Pastor C H Horn notes the season offers a chance to honor Jesus by worship.
The Katy School Board holds its regular monthly meeting tonight at 7:45 in the Admin Building Board Room. It is held a week early to avoid clashing with the Katy Rotary Club pancake supper. Reports from committees on school buildings insurance and elective course offerings will be reviewed along with the duplex apartments sale and progress on Katy construction projects.

The Katy Tigerettes begin volleyball on Monday February 9 hosting Clear Creek at Katy High School gym with 6:00 and 7:00 pm matches. Returning lettermen include Sue Bacon Denise Morgan Pam Neelys Rhonda Brune Kathy Townsend Cindi Morgan and others. New team members listed include Claudia Cheshire Sonny Morgan Robbie Hulsey Celeste Maples and Mary Conroy.
Hundreds of Scouters will converge on the Fort Bend County Fair Grounds Rosenberg for the Grand Scout-O Rama on Saturday February 7 from two to eight pm. Scouts from the Deaf Smith Scouting District including Cubs and Explorers and Boy Scouts will present skill demonstrations and crafts. Public invited with admission 1.00 for adults 0.50 for children. tickets sold by Scouts in the district and at the gate.
More than 40 leading rice farmers from Beaumont to Edna met at the Royal Coach Inn in Houston to address the Texas rice industry's future. They formed six committees to study marketing, storage, transportation, finance, quality evaluation, and producer relations, aiming to raise incomes through improved marketing.

First round results from the Katy FFA tournament at the VFW Community Center show 16 winning teams advancing to the main bracket and 8 teams entering Consolation. Notable matchups included Floyd Beckendorff and Reed Smith versus A A Alexander and Cecil Beckendorff, with many tables listed for round play. Final rounds were scheduled for Thursday night February 5 with trophies for top teams in both main and consolation brackets.
