Valentine Carnival Queen and Court Named at Katy High

Marilyn Elkins will reign as Queen of the Carnival with Bill Madsen as escort at Katy High School Auditorium on February 14. The court includes listed ladies in waiting, princes and princesses, and a full line of duchesses and dukes across grades. The event is PTA sponsored with Mrs. Fred A. Rylander as general chair and features the theme The Passing Parade with stage direction by Helen Longenbaugh and others. Honored guests will be past reigning kings and queens since 1950.

Ed Neuman Services Held Last Friday

Funeral services for Eddie Gus Neuman were held at Schmidt Funeral Home Chapel on Friday morning January 27 at 10 am with interment in Pattison Methodist Cemetery. He died January 25 in Sealy Hospital after years of illness and ten days in hospital. Born July 18 1896 he was a Pattison native and farmer rancher who served in World War I. He married Gussie Matzke in January 1922 and was a Pattison Methodist Church member and long time Pattison school board trustee. Survivors include his wife two sons Alton and Eddie and three grandchildren Marie Charles and Mark. His brother Alva preceded him in death. Pallbearers included Walter Chalmers Benny Brandt Arlie Brandt Dan Keller Arlie Kobs Harvey Kobs August Beckendorff.

Tomboy and The Champ Premiere At Wayside Fri And Sat

Katy Day Premiere drew 1300 attendees from Katy and nearby areas for the Tomboy and The Champ showing at Wayside Theatre with a large caravan of buses and cars. Stars Candy Moore and others appeared. Candy received gifts and mayoral praise. audience reactions praised the film’s moral and family appeal.

Garden Club Sets Feb 9 Meeting With Flower Clinic

Friendship Garden Club schedules its February meeting with speaker Mrs. Rose Ewing of Kendra Plastic Foliage Studio of Flowers. School Census Being Taken Now

The Royal Ind School District is conducting a school census to be completed by March. Census blanks were sent home with pupils and must be returned to the attending school. Parents with children starting school next year should contact M. F. Dollar at Brookshire Elementary or Levell Johnson at Clemons Elementary to add their child to the census roll.

Cub Scout Blue and Gold Awards Dinner in Brookshire

The Blue and Gold Banquet for Pack No. 370 Brookshire is set for Feb 10 at Brookshire Elementary Cafeteria. It marks the 51st Scouting anniversary with 25 Cubs and parents attending. Den mothers—Mrs. Stanley Rhemann, Mrs. E D Turner, Mrs. Ken McDonald, Mrs. Myrtle Ritchey, and Mrs. John Lowe—lead the steering committee. Stanley Rhemann is Cub Master.

The Katy High School PTA holds its regular monthly meeting on February 7 at 8:00 p.m. in the school's Recreation Room. Program director Fred Ruland Jr will discuss Autos in High. Tigers Seek District Title In Columbus Showdown

The Katy Tigers travel to Columbus Tuesday then host Sealy in a key District 21AA race. A win over Columbus would put them in contention for the district crown after earlier 63 58 loss to Columbus. If Katy defeats Humble next, the title could be secured by beating both Columbus and Humble. Games at 6 and 7 30 p.m. plan to follow.

Royal FFA Supper Frn Shrimp Gumbo Feb 1961

The Royal Future Farmers of America will sponsor a shrimp gumbo supper on Friday February 3, 1961 at the Brookshire Cafeteria not the high school cafeteria as reported earlier. Meals served 5:00 to 7:00 pm with shrimp gumbo salad crackers rice and drinks. Large plate $1.00 small plate 60 cents.

The Royal PTA voted to stop monthly study groups for the term and hopes to resume next year. Judge John Winfree traced Waller County history from its beginnings through the Civil War, linking past places and events to present communities. Social hour hostesses served homemade cookies, coffee, and cold drinks.

Schrader Named Secretary of Brookshire Fire Dept

In a regular meeting the Brookshire Fire Dept re elected officers for another year except secretary and treasurer where Fred Weisner resigned and Herbert Schrader was elected. All firemen urged to attend the next meeting to arrange practice. A Woodmen of the World donation of 25 dollars was received. Pancake Supper Sponsored by Rotary

Driver Clinic Begins Feb 13 At Katy High School

The adult driver information and refresher course runs four Mondays starting Feb 13 at 7 p.m. at Katy High School with a final session on Tuesday March 14. Conducted by the Department of Public Safety and sponsored by the High School Driver Education Department, the class aims to improve safe driving practices for experienced drivers. Lawmakers Detail Committee Assignments in Texas

The Times reports Myra Banfield will serve on the water conservation committee and also on labor liquor regulations privileges suffrage and elections and constitutional amendments committees. Senator Culp Krueger lists twelve Senate assignments and discusses votes on salaries and Social Security for state employees and plans to sponsor a reorganization bill with Senator Patman.

Tubbs Reports Low Poll Tax Receipts This Year

L. S. Tubbs announced that his office had issued 231 poll tax receipts by the close of Monday. He noted this total is well below the amount collected by the same period last year.

Pitts and Rylander Win 1961 Katy FFA 42 Tourney

Carey Pitts and Fred Rylander won two of three games to edge Jim Watson and J. Feeny in the final round of the 7th Annual Katy FFA 42 Tournament. Olen Thompson and Fred Hoyt took the Consolation bracket, defeating Chester Jordan and Whit Bains Jr. The FFA hosts presented Chapter Advisor L D Robinson with gloves for his January 31 birthday.
